Avengers: Endgame Just Lost A Box Office Record To Disney’s New Billion Dollar Guarantee

As a huge movie fan, I was surprised to see that Avengers: Endgame has finally lost a box office record! When it first came out, Endgame was absolutely massive, quickly becoming the highest-grossing film ever with nearly $2.8 billion worldwide. It held that number one spot for a good while, until Avatar was re-released and took it back. While Endgame still had some records untouchable by older films – like its incredible opening weekend – Disney’s newest release just managed to beat one of those, and it’s already looking like it’ll cross the billion-dollar mark itself. It’s amazing to see another Disney film doing so well!

The animated film Zootopia 2 had a very successful Thanksgiving weekend, earning $156 million domestically. Globally, the film has already brought in an impressive $459.6 million (according to The Numbers). It also broke box office records in China, making $34 million on its opening day – surpassing the previous single-day record held by Avengers: Endgame (via The Express Tribune).

Reports show that Zootopia 2 earned the most money internationally in China, South Korea, France, Mexico, and Germany. Its opening weekend revenue was higher than both Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($450 million) and Captain Marvel ($456 million), though it didn’t quite reach the level of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 ($483 million). Now that the holidays are here, family-friendly films like Zootopia 2 are expected to continue doing well, particularly since there aren’t as many kid-focused Christmas movies available this year.

Zootopia 2 Is A Guaranteed Billion-Dollar Movie

As a movie fan, I gotta say, this is a huge win for Disney! It’s awesome that one of their films managed to beat out another’s previous record. Honestly, it helped that some of their bigger MCU releases, like Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four, didn’t quite hit the mark this year. Looking ahead, with Christmas movies leaning towards older viewers, it seems like Avatar: Fire and Ash is the only one expected to be a real blockbuster during the holidays. But even that one’s trending a little lower than previous Avatar films, which gives Zootopia 2 a genuine shot at continuing its success and racking up even more numbers.

Most experts believe Zootopia 2 will easily earn over a billion dollars, though its final total is still uncertain. Disney has been successful with its recent animated sequels in theaters, and Zootopia 2 has the potential to be their biggest hit yet. Currently, Frozen II is Disney’s highest-grossing animated sequel with $1.45 billion, followed by Moana 2 at $1.05 billion. Ralph Breaks the Internet earned $539 million, a number Zootopia 2 is expected to exceed within the next couple of weeks.

Early reviews for Zootopia 2 are stronger than those for both Frozen II and Moana 2, suggesting it could be a big hit with families during the holidays and encourage repeat visits to the theater. Frozen II earned $130.2 million on its opening weekend (Thanksgiving 2019) and ultimately became the 15th highest-grossing film worldwide – a performance Zootopia 2 could potentially match. While it’s unlikely to reach the heights of Avengers: Endgame, Zootopia 2 has the potential to become one of the most successful animated films ever.
