Why Deadpool 4 Is Impossible To Get Right… For Now

The first Deadpool movie was successful because the character had been poorly portrayed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and it gave audiences a proper introduction to the anti-hero. The sequel captured the same energy. Deadpool & Wolverine concluded the trilogy by setting up Deadpool’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but rushing into that future too quickly could hurt the potential of Deadpool 4. Director Shawn Levy explains the challenge: Deadpool 4 needs to both continue the existing story and launch Deadpool into a brand new world, so it has to work as both a sequel and a fresh start.
Fortunately, there’s a clear path forward for Deadpool 4. Adapting a particular Marvel Comics storyline could address current challenges, but it would require waiting until after Avengers: Secret Wars comes out. This delay would actually be beneficial, giving audiences time to adjust to Deadpool joining the MCU and allowing Marvel to carefully craft a compelling new story for the character, ultimately delivering the satisfying outcome director Shawn Levy envisions.
