Good news for fans of Splinter Cell: development of the remake is moving forward! David Grivel, who previously led the game’s creation, has rejoined Ubisoft after leaving in 2022. He’s now back at Ubisoft Toronto as the game director for the Splinter Cell remake.
Grivel announced his return to Ubisoft Toronto as Game Director for the Splinter Cell remake, calling it a particularly meaningful project and team for him.
Grivel previously worked at Ubisoft as the game director for the Splinter Cell remake, a role he held for about a year, from November 2021 to October 2022, according to his LinkedIn profile. He then moved to EA, where he was the senior design director for the campaign in Battlefield 6 until March 2024.
After a brief period at EA, Grivel worked as game director at Ubisoft Toronto for eight months in 2024, where he provided design leadership for a new, unannounced game still in early development. He’s now returning to Ubisoft following some freelance work with other companies.
As a huge Splinter Cell fan, I’m still waiting for Ubisoft to really tell us what’s happening with the remake! But things seem to be moving forward – there’s been a lot of talk that development is going well. Back in May, Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming said he’d heard the remake looks “genuinely impressive,” and that came right after Ubisoft started hinting they were going to make an official announcement soon. I’m really hoping we get some solid news any day now!
Back in October 2024, reports suggested the Splinter Cell remake was expected to launch in 2026. However, Ubisoft’s latest financial report revealed their plans for four major game releases in the coming year. These include Rainbow Six Siege Mobile and The Division Resurgence on mobile, as well as the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake and one other unrevealed game for PC and consoles.
Reports suggest this upcoming game is likely a remake of Splinter Cell. Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw says the release is planned for sometime in the latter half of 2026.
According to what’s been shown, the Splinter Cell remake is looking promising and development is progressing well. The latest update indicated a planned release sometime in the second half of 2026.
The most recent main installment in the Splinter Cell series was Splinter Cell: Blacklist, released in 2013. That was the sixth major Splinter Cell game, following the first release in 2002. The series also includes several spin-off games for handheld consoles, starting with a Game Boy Advance title in 2002 and continuing with Splinter Cell 3D for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011.
