A new Harry Potter TV series is coming to HBO, bringing the beloved wizard back to audiences. Following the success of the original Harry Potter films, the story of ‘The Boy Who Lived’ will now continue on television.
Dominic McLaughlin, who will play Harry Potter in the upcoming series, recently shared an update on the show’s progress during an appearance on Saturday Mash-Up! Live. He said filming is “going amazing” and that he’s enjoying working with the cast and crew, having made good friends with everyone.
Filming for the new Harry Potter series began in July 2025 with the cast currently shooting scenes in England. Production is expected to wrap up around the middle of 2026.
Daniel Radcliffe, best known for playing Harry Potter in the original movies, recently contacted Jacob Elordi, who now plays Paul Atreides, to offer his support after Elordi landed the significant role. Radcliffe shared this information on Good Morning America on November 18th.
I didn’t feel the need to contact whoever was cast as Harry. I do know some people involved in the production, so I wrote a letter to Dominic, and he kindly wrote back. I simply wanted to wish him all the best and express hope that his experience would be even better than mine – I really enjoyed my time! Seeing pictures of him and the other young actors makes me want to give them a hug; they all seem so young. It’s strange to think I was doing that once, but it’s also lovely, and I truly hope they’re having a wonderful time.
During a live appearance on McLaughlin’s Saturday Mash-Up!, Daniel Radcliffe was asked about a memorable experience he’d previously described as “insane.” He explained that his father handed him a letter on a train. After reading it, he realized it was only initialed ‘Dan R.’, which left him confused and anxious, but he had to remain calm while still on the train.
As a huge fan, I’m already getting excited about the Harry Potter TV series! Even though they’re still working on the first season, HBO is already thinking way ahead and planning future seasons. Apparently, they’re aiming to cover one book per season, and Casey Bloys at HBO recently let slip some details about how they’re planning to film everything in the seasons to come.
We’re aiming to keep the production moving quickly. While there will be a short break between filming the first and second seasons, we want to avoid a long delay. This is important both for the young actors, so they don’t age too much between seasons, and for the audience, to maintain engagement. It’s a large-scale show with many special effects, which makes things complicated, but we’ll do everything we can to minimize the gap between seasons, said Bloys during a press conference.
HBO has ordered eight episodes for the first season of the new Harry Potter series. It’s scheduled to arrive in 2027, and a specific premiere date will be announced at a later time.
