5 Marvel Mind-Control Villains Who Could Be Spider-Man’s New Enemy (& The Best 1 Who Can’t Appear)

Rumors are circulating that a villain with mind control powers will appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Fans are excited about which Marvel Comics character might make the jump to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring Tom Holland back as Peter Parker five years after everyone forgot his identity in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The story will feature Spider-Man joining forces with the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and other MCU heroes to fight this powerful new enemy.

According to a new report from Daniel Richtman (via The Direct), a scene has been filmed for the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day where Spider-Man and the Punisher team up to fight a group of mind-controlled criminals. These criminals have sprung Mac Gargan, also known as the Scorpion (played by Michael Mando), from prison. While fans will be thrilled to see Scorpion return after nine years, this suggests a new villain with mind control powers will also appear in the movie. The identity of this villain is currently unknown, but there are several powerful mind controllers in Marvel Comics that fans are hoping to see brought to life in the MCU.

5) Maynard Tiboldt’s Ringmaster

Maynard Tiboldt first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1962 as the new Ringmaster, taking over the role from his father. Although he doesn’t have any superpowers, Tiboldt uses a hypnotic device in his hat to control others, making him a distinctive villain who has battled heroes like the Avengers, Nick Fury, Daredevil, and Spider-Man. He even briefly controlled Spider-Man, which led to a potential appearance in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline. However, this relatively unknown villain hasn’t yet appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

4) Dr. Karl Lykos’ Sauron

It’s highly unlikely we’ll see the villain Sauron appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sauron is the other identity of Karl Lykos, a character who gains power by draining life force and turning into a Pteranodon-like creature after absorbing a mutant’s energy. He’s a particularly dangerous enemy of the X-Men, and with rumors suggesting Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink might play Jean Grey in a potential Brand New Day movie, this could be a chance to introduce him. Sauron is known for his mind control abilities, having previously dominated heroes like Wolverine, Devil Dinosaur, and even the Avengers.

3) Emma Frost’s White Queen

If Sadie Sink appears as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it could open the door for other telepathic characters from the X-Men to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This could mean we’ll finally see Emma Frost make her MCU debut, and potentially get a better storyline for her than she had in the previous X-Men movies. Emma Frost is a major and powerful Marvel character, and her journey from villain to hero – and eventually leader – deserves a significant role in the MCU. Introducing her early, in Brand New Day, would allow for a more developed character arc.

2) Antoine Delsoin’s Hypno-Hustler

Sony once planned a standalone movie starring Donald Glover as Hypno-Hustler within their Spider-Man Universe, but the project was canceled. Now that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has concluded with Kraven the Hunter, and with Glover already established as Aaron Davis, another actor could take on the role in a potential reboot. Hypno-Hustler, known for his hypnotic guitar and gas-powered boots, leads a band called The Mercy Killers and has the ability to hypnotize large groups of people – a power he’s used against Spider-Man in Marvel comics, making him a potentially exciting character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

1) Mister Negative

I’m so excited about where Spider-Man is headed with Brand New Day! All the buzz points to Mister Negative being the big bad, and honestly, it makes perfect sense. He’s a seriously powerful villain who can control minds using this dark energy called Darkforce – imagine the chaos! With Wilson Fisk running things and New York already feeling pretty grim, it’s the ideal time for someone like Mister Negative to rise up. Plus, we’ve seen pictures from the set with this gang called the Inner Demons – they’re definitely connected to him! It’s looking more and more like we’re finally going to see this awesome Spider-Man villain brought to life.

We Wish Kilgrave Would Return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

We’re looking forward to seeing mind-controlling villains like Mister Negative in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but we’d rather see Kilgrave (David Tennant) come back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kilgrave, also known as the Purple Man, was a truly frightening enemy of Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) in the Defenders series. Although he died at the end of Jessica Jones season one, he reappeared as a vision later on, so it’s possible Marvel Studios could bring him back somehow.

Kilgrave has the power to control people’s minds with a virus, and he uses this ability to indulge in cruel and selfish acts. He’s a well-known and popular villain in Marvel, which is why many fans are disappointed he likely won’t reappear, despite Krysten Ritter returning as Jessica Jones in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again in 2026. Meanwhile, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline promises an exciting adventure for Spider-Man, and we’re excited to see a new villain with mind control powers introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
