AYANEO, a company known for its gaming handhelds and mini PCs, recently unveiled its new high-end Windows handheld, the NEXT II, aimed at dedicated gamers.

AYANEO already offers a wide range of handheld gaming devices, but their newest model is a significant upgrade, boasting a powerful AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor.

This processor, featuring a Zen 5 Strix Halo CPU and RDNA 3.5 Radeon 8060S graphics, is designed to deliver smoother gaming performance than the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip found in the Xbox Ally X. It achieves this with a higher power draw – up to 85W, compared to the Ally X’s 35W.

This portable device boasts a large 9.06-inch OLED screen – one of the biggest you’ll find on a handheld gaming console. To put that in perspective, the Legion Go 2 has an 8.8-inch OLED display, making this one noticeably larger.

The NEXT II also boasts a remarkably sharp display for a handheld device, with a resolution up to 2,400 x 1,504. It’s unique in that you can adjust the refresh rate between 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz, and even 165Hz – offering smoother visuals than most similar Windows handhelds.

This handheld device boasts a huge 115Whr battery. To put that in perspective, the Xbox Ally X has 80Whr, and the Legion Go 2 has 74Whr – making this battery significantly larger. While battery capacity is important, actual battery life also depends on how efficiently the device operates, so we’ll need to test it to see how long it lasts.

This handheld gaming device, like other top-of-the-line models, includes advanced features like precise Hall Effect joysticks and triggers, a responsive 8-way D-pad, four customizable back buttons, and a dual-fan system to keep it cool during gameplay.

It also includes a customizable, illuminated AYANEO logo – a nice touch.

Like previous AYANEO devices, all the details about the NEXT II haven’t been released yet. We still don’t know exactly what ports it will have, how it will connect to other devices, or its precise size and weight. We’ll have to wait for future announcements to learn more.

The price and release date haven’t been announced yet. But considering how much other high-end AYANEO devices cost, this powerful handheld is likely to be expensive—probably over $2,000. It seems to be targeted at dedicated gamers who are willing to spend more, rather than a wider audience, which is reflected in their “True gamers” marketing.

AYANEO has typically sold its devices through Indiegogo, but recently some models have also become available at Best Buy. Therefore, when the new device launches, it could be sold at either of these stores.
