Ahsoka’s Claudia Black Gives More Details About Star Wars Exit Over Pay

Claudia Black recently explained why she won’t be returning for a second season of Star Wars: Ahsoka. In a new interview, she stated that the salary offered for the next season wasn’t sufficient. This builds on previous comments she made to Bleeding Cool about the situation.

Claudia Black explains why she left Star Wars: Ahsoka before Season 2

Claudia Black won’t be back for season two of Ahsoka. She told The Hollywood Reporter that the pay offered for the role didn’t work for her financially.

As a huge fan of the show, I was really surprised to hear what Gabrielle Black revealed about her pay for the first season. Apparently, a lot of people assumed she was making a ton of money, given it’s part of such a big franchise. But she said it was actually the opposite! She explained that her earnings were actually closer to what she made when she was just starting out, back when she was 19 or 20 years old. It’s honestly a bit shocking to hear that even with a role in something so popular, the initial pay wasn’t what you’d expect.

Black explained that she’s often been told actors should be grateful for roles in big franchises, even if the pay isn’t ideal. However, she objects to this idea, especially when it comes to women. She pointed out that others who accepted similar jobs didn’t have the same family responsibilities, and this overlooks the significant amount of unpaid work women typically handle at home.

Black stated she wasn’t personally bothered by Disney’s decision. She also mentioned the reaction to her previous comments on Bleeding Cool was largely positive, and that she’d messaged Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni to express her gratitude for his support.

Before talking to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Dominique Thorne had already explained her departure in an interview with Bleeding Cool. She said filming for the second season would be in London, but Disney couldn’t afford to pay her enough to cover her living expenses in Los Angeles while also fulfilling her responsibilities as a single mother. The London location made it financially impossible for her to continue.
