The new Metroid Prime 4: Beyond game for Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 wasn’t made by just one studio. Nintendo Life noticed the game’s credits list a lot of different development teams, including Retro Studios, Virtuos, Territory Studio, Waterproof, AMC Studio, Red Hot CG, and several others. A full list of the studios involved in creating Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is available below.
Many of the studios credited in the game likely provided support for larger development teams, but some specialize in specific areas. Red Hot CG, for example, focuses on creating art assets for games. They’ve contributed to several major titles, including Destiny 2, Horizon Forbidden West, Valorant, and Starfield, to name a few.
Keywords Studios is a bigger company that provides support for game development, and it owns several other studios, such as GameSim and Smoking Gun Interactive.
Development of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond began a while ago, with the game first announced in 2017. Initially, it wasn’t being developed by the usual Metroid Prime team at Retro Studios, but by Bandai Namco Studios in Japan and Singapore. However, things changed, and in 2019, Nintendo confirmed the game had been restarted with Retro Studios now leading development.
Players once again step into the boots of Samus Aran in this installment, finding her stranded on the planet Viewros and battling for survival against numerous enemies, including a competing bounty hunter named Sylux. Staying true to the Metroid Prime series, Beyond features first-person gameplay that blends exploration, jumping and climbing, puzzle solving, and fast-paced action. Samus can also scan her surroundings to learn more about the story and help her progress.
The latest Metroid Prime game introduces exciting new abilities, including psychic powers players can use throughout their adventure. Samus will also get around faster with the Vi-0-La bike, which will help her explore the game’s diverse worlds.
Both the original Switch and the new Switch 2 will get Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but the Switch 2 version will have some extras. One key addition is the ability to use the new Joy-Con 2 controller like a mouse, making the game play more like a traditional PC shooter.
Here are 15 key details about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and a look at how it differs from Metroid Prime 3.
