Unlocking Elden Ring Nightreign’s DLC: Specific Conditions & Requirements

The new ‘Elden Ring: Nightreign’ DLC, called ‘The Forsaken Hollows,’ will be available December 4th on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, and fans are eagerly anticipating its release. True to FromSoftware’s style, accessing the DLC won’t be a simple process – players will need to complete a few steps to unlock the new content.

Bandai Namco recently announced that unlocking the new content in the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC—including the two Nightfarer characters, two new bosses, and the Shifting Earth event—requires fulfilling certain conditions in the game.

How Do I Unlock Elden Ring Nightreign’s DLC?

Players Will Need To Defeat Specific Bosses To Unlock The Forsaken Hollows

The new Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC adds a significant amount of content, including two new characters – the Scholar and the Undertaker – plus two challenging bosses, The Dreglord and the Balancers. A new in-game event called The Great Hollows has also been added. To access any of this new content, you’ll need to complete a series of requirements first.

DLC Feature Description How To Unlock
Nightfarers Scholar & Undertaker
  • Defeat Tricephalos
  • Speak with Iron Menial at Roundtable Hold
  • Acquire message from the Small Jar Merchant
Bosses Dreglord & Balancers
  • Defeat Tricephalos & one other boss in base game
  • Unlock both Scholar & Undertaker
  • Access chapel behind the Small Jar Merchant
  • Challenge ‘The Great Hollows’ Shifting Earth event
Shifting Earth Event The Great Hollows
  • Unlock chapel behind Small Jar Merchant (see above)

In addition to the requirements already mentioned, everyone in your party needs to own and have downloaded the The Forsaken Hollows DLC. You must defeat Tricephalos to unlock the new content. As for getting both Nightfarers, it’s currently unknown if you’ll need to do anything else after getting the message from the Small Jar Merchant – it may be similar to how you unlocked them in the original game.

Bandai Namco’s guide didn’t mention the Dreglord, even though it’s been confirmed as a boss through YouTube videos. It seems likely you’ll unlock the Dreglord after beating the Balancers, but we’ll share more details as we get them.
