The popular animated film Spider-Verse introduced many people to the character Spider-Man Noir, and now he’s getting his own live-action TV series on Prime Video. Details about the show’s story and other actors are still under wraps, but Nicolas Cage will star as the lead. At the CCXP convention today, fans finally got a preview of the series and learned exactly which version of the character Cage will be portraying – and it’s a surprise to many!
At CCXP, the studio unveiled a new poster for Spider-Noir, showing Spider-Man’s silhouette wearing his signature goggles and hat, seen through the glass of a door (according to Omelete). The poster identifies him as a ‘Private Investigator,’ but what’s really grabbing attention is the name listed above: B. Reilly, which refers to Ben Reilly.
Ben Reilly is a well-known figure in Spider-Man stories, first appearing during the controversial ‘Clone Saga.’ This storyline revealed Ben as a clone of Peter Parker, created by a villain called the Jackal. The major surprise was that Ben was actually the original Peter Parker, not the copy, which caused a lot of confusion and upheaval.
Since his introduction, the character of Reilly has continued to appear in Spider-Man stories, even after the reveal that Ben was a clone, not the original Peter Parker. He’s played various roles – sometimes a hero, sometimes a villain, and sometimes something in between – and recently reappeared in the current Spider-Man comic series. Now, a new storyline featuring Spider-Man Noir seems to be putting Ben Reilly at the center of things, though the reason for this shift isn’t yet known.
I’m really hoping Peter shows up again in the series – it would be amazing to see him and the other character interact! I’ve also been thinking, what if this new character, Ben, is actually Peter in disguise? It feels like maybe it’s just a name change, and he’s still the same person we know and love from the comics, not a completely new character.
The character most recently appeared on television as an animated version in Ultimate Spider-Man. This series featured the character as part of a storyline called the Spider-Verse, which brought together many different versions of Spider-Man, including Spyder-Knight, Spider-Man 2099, and Spider-Girl. Milo Ventimiglia provided the voice for Spider-Man Noir in that series.
Spider-Noir still doesn’t have a release date, but is expected to launch in 2026.
