HBO Max finally confirms UK and Ireland release window as new service to boast some of the world’s biggest shows

I’m so excited! It’s finally been confirmed that HBO Max will be launching in the UK and Ireland in March 2026. We’ve been waiting a long time for this!

Casey Bloys, head of content for HBO and Max, revealed the release timeframe during a presentation in London on Wednesday, December 3rd.

Following Wednesday’s announcement, the streaming service, owned by Warner Bros Discovery, will launch in Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein on January 13th.

HBO Max offers a wide range of popular shows and movies. Hit dramas include titles like The Pitt, It: Welcome to Derry, House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Euphoria, and Industry, with the new series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms coming soon. On the movie side, you’ll find blockbusters like Superman, The Batman, Dune, and all the Harry Potter films, among many others.

You’ll be able to watch the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 live on HBO Max, from February 6th to 22nd.

Right now, Sky has the exclusive rights to show popular HBO series like Succession and Game of Thrones in the UK, thanks to a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.

Because of a deal made last year between Sky and Warner Bros. Discovery, you’ll still be able to watch HBO shows on Sky for free, even after HBO Max becomes available in the UK and Ireland. However, HBO Max will offer another way to watch, so Sky won’t be the only place to find HBO content anymore.

I have to say, I was encouraged by what Sky’s Meghan Lyvers shared with us during a panel discussion yesterday. She seemed genuinely optimistic about where things are headed, particularly with their original scripted content. It’s a good sign to hear that kind of confidence from an executive like her.

We’ve found that Sky Originals are consistently our most popular and well-received shows. This is great news for us, as it means we’re able to keep producing the content that both the company and our viewers want to see.

She explained that their approach remains unchanged: they’ll continue with their current plans, keep producing shows, and maintain the same level of quality they’ve delivered recently.
