New RPG Inspired By Classic Game Boy Color Games Sets Early 2026 Release Date

The Game Boy Color came out in 1998, and for many gamers, Nintendo’s Game Boy systems were a huge part of their early gaming experiences. The Game Boy Color, especially, is fondly remembered, and it’s still popular with retro game fans. Surprisingly, developers are still making new games for the system, and an upcoming RPG is a great example – it’s from the same team that revived the Backyard Baseball series.

Mega Cat Studios is an independent game developer known for its retro-style games. They’ve successfully revived classic franchises like Backyard Baseball and also create original games that capture a nostalgic feel. Their next project, a retro RPG called Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land, developed in collaboration with Exquisite Laundry Pet, will be available on Steam and Game Boy Color starting February 19th, 2026.
