Following a disappointing start for Splitgate 2, which was temporarily taken offline for improvements, 1047 Games is releasing Splitgate: Arena Reloaded on December 17th. It will be available as a free-to-play game on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, and aims to combine the most popular features from both previous games. The biggest change is that the game no longer features factions or special abilities. Players are free to build their own custom weapon setups without limitations, ensuring everyone starts on equal footing. Classic modes like Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Gun Game, and Shotty Snipers will be available, along with six updated arenas and five brand new ones.
The update includes three new main weapons, plus a new Power weapon. The Ranked system has been completely reworked, and the way you progress has been revamped to guarantee rewards after each match. These are just some of the many new features players can enjoy.
Josh Watson, design director for Splitgate, announced that the game is being rebuilt to recapture the spirit of classic arena shooters the team grew up with. He explained they’re taking the best elements from both Splitgate 1 and Splitgate 2, improving what worked and leaving behind what didn’t. CEO Ian Proulx also noted that the community’s feedback was key to this decision, saying they were the ones who guided the team back to the core arena experience.
It’s unclear if this will bring players back to the game, but it’s interesting to see the developers simplifying things by removing features they’ve been working on for a long time, like the battle royale mode. A short documentary about the game’s development will be released on December 9th, so keep an eye out for more information.
