Kiefer Sutherland has provided a big update on the revival of Fox’s hit real-time thriller 24.
Showrunner Howard Gordon has confirmed they’re working on a new installment of 24. This news follows hints from Kiefer Sutherland about a potential script that could bring back his character, Jack Bauer, and restart the series.
In a new interview with TopMob Magazine, Sutherland shared that Gordon has finished a plan for a possible continuation of the show.
Kiefer Sutherland said he’s talked with producer Howard Gordon about whether he ever thinks about his character, Jack Bauer, and how things might have turned out differently.
I’m really excited because he’s actually put together an outline for the project! It feels like a huge step in the right direction, and I’m definitely keeping an open mind about it. Fingers crossed we can move forward with it quickly!
The show 24 first aired in 2001 and continued for nine seasons, concluding with a two-hour movie. It quickly became a hit with audiences.
The show centered on Jack Bauer, a federal agent who worked to protect the United States from dangerous threats and attacks.
What made this series stand out from other thrillers was its innovative use of ‘real time’ – each episode showed everything that happened to Bauer within a single hour of his day.

Gordon recently told Deadline that a revival of ’24’ is in the works. However, Disney, which now owns the show after acquiring 20th Television, hasn’t officially approved the project yet.
I really miss that show, and I get the feeling Kiefer does too. We spent ages trying to come up with a good way to bring it back, but nothing ever felt quite right or sustainable. This new idea feels promising, though – it’s not a done deal yet, but it’s definitely gaining momentum.
He expressed concerns about bringing the show back. He explained, “I’m worried that a new version won’t be good, and that wouldn’t be fair to the original show, the people who love it, or even to me.”
It needs to be something you feel a connection to, or at least convince yourself you do. It might not work out perfectly, but you have to believe it has potential.

You can now watch season 24 on Disney+. A Disney+ subscription costs £4.99 per month or £89.90 for the year.
