Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has achieved a historic milestone by receiving a Golden Globe nomination, joining other popular animated films like KPop Demon Hunters and Zootopia 2. The Golden Globes have recognized outstanding animated features since 2007, and while many anime films have been nominated, few have actually won—Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron being a recent exception. This year, however, is particularly significant for anime, with Demon Slayer’s nomination marking a major achievement.
The animated film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Feature Film – a first for any series originally published in Shonen Jump magazine. While it faces strong competition from major blockbusters like KPop Demon Hunters and Zootopia 2, as well as critically acclaimed independent films such as Arco, this nomination is a significant achievement.

Here are the official nominees for the 2026 Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film:
- Arco
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle
- Elio
- KPop Demon Hunters
- Little Amélie or the Character of Rain
- Zootopia 2
The 83rd Golden Globes will be held on January 11th, broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. Being nominated for a Golden Globe often increases an film’s chances of also being nominated for an Academy Award, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle may be a contender. This is significant because while anime films have been nominated in the past, they didn’t win an award until 2023.
Wow, it’s been an incredible year for anime! Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle absolutely crushed it in theaters, and the KPop Demon Hunters series is the biggest thing on streaming right now. But what’s really exciting is that all this success is finally translating into awards recognition. It feels like a huge step forward for anime as a whole. For so long, people have separated ‘popular’ from ‘worthy’ when it comes to art, but now a property from Shonen Jump – something so mainstream – is getting that kind of acclaim. It proves that anime can be both massively popular and considered award-worthy, even here at home!
What’s Going to Win the Golden Globe?
Despite the growing popularity of anime, it’s doubtful either of these animated films will win a Golden Globe. While it’s a shame the trend has moved away from them recently, Disney’s Zootopia 2 is the likely winner. It’s already been a huge success both financially and with critics. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle didn’t receive the same positive response.
Even though KPop Demon Hunters might be the stronger film, its release directly to streaming would be a significant change for the Golden Globes. This awards season will be fascinating to watch, as the success of a Shonen Jump film reaching this level opens the door for all sorts of possibilities in future nominations and wins.
