Paramount+ Just Started Streaming the Best Crime Thriller of the ’90s

Paramount+ has added some excellent new movies and shows recently, and a standout is a classic crime thriller from 1996. Brothers Joel and Ethan Coen first gained recognition with a few successful, low-budget films. Then, in the mid-90s, they truly hit their stride, taking viewers to the bleak landscapes of North Dakota with a surprisingly original story that became one of the decade’s most memorable.

When Fargo came out in 1996, it was immediately hailed as a classic, and it still holds up remarkably well almost 30 years later. Now, it’s easy to watch thanks to streaming – it became available on Paramount+ on December 1st.

If you’re unfamiliar with it, Fargo is a unique crime story that’s both thrilling and darkly funny. It centers on a detached car salesman (William H. Macy) who finds himself involved in a strange and dangerous crime with two clumsy but menacing hitmen (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare). A determined, pregnant police officer (Frances McDormand), just trying to do her job and return to her family, constantly interferes with their plans.

The movie Fargo is fantastic, and surprisingly, the TV series inspired by it is nearly as good. Created by Noah Hawley, the show premiered on FX in 2014 and has given us five seasons of quirky, funny, and dramatic crime stories, with each season featuring a completely new plot.
