‘Iron Lung’ Trailer Teases Horror Video Game Adaptation

As a huge fan of Markiplier, I’m so excited to see his passion project, Iron Lung, finally hitting the big screen! It’s based on the indie horror game by David Szymanski, and Mark – or Mark Fischbach, as you might know him – didn’t just star in it, he did everything – produced, wrote, directed, and even edited it all himself! What’s even more incredible is he completely self-financed and is self-distributing the movie, which is amazing. It’s been a long time coming, but we’ll finally get to see it in theaters in January 2026, and I can’t wait!

Iron Lung takes place in a haunting universe where all habitable planets have disappeared, leaving the player stranded in a damaged submarine adrift on an ocean of blood on a strange planet. The game gained popularity due to its frightening story and intensely claustrophobic atmosphere. Markiplier intends to stay true to the game’s narrative, as described in his account:

The stars and planets have vanished, leaving only those in space to witness what they call The Quiet Rapture. After years of decline, the Consolidation of Iron has made a startling discovery on the desolate moon AT-5: an ocean of blood. Desperate for resources, they’re launching an expedition. A submarine is built, and a prisoner is sealed inside, tasked with exploring the depths. The submarine’s front window is heavily reinforced to withstand the immense pressure. Success means freedom; failure means another convict will take their place. This is the thirteenth attempt.

The indie horror game Iron Lung has a small cast, with voice acting from popular creators like Jacksepticeye (Sean McLoughlin), Elle LaMont, Caroline Kaplan, and Elsie Lovelock. The trailer prominently features Markiplier as the player character, who faces terrifying challenges in the claustrophobic setting. Iron Lung uses unsettling imagery and detailed environments to create a truly immersive and frightening experience, even showing glimpses of the strange world outside the submarine, keeping players constantly tense.

‘Iron Lung’ Is Finally Heading to Theaters After Years of Delays

As a big fan, I’m so excited to share some news about the Iron Lung movie! Filming finished back in April 2023, and we finally got a trailer in October. It’s been a long wait, but Markiplier just announced it’s coming to theaters in 2026! He’s working with independent cinemas nationwide to get it shown on January 30th, which is amazing. The director is still finalizing everything, so specific theaters and showtimes are still to come, but mark your calendars – it’s happening!

Markiplier told Variety that Iron Lung seems to have set a record for the most blood shown in any horror film—or any film, for that matter. He also talked about the effort involved in making the movie adaptation.

Everyone told me making this movie was a terrible idea. It wasn’t that it was impossible – plenty of films get made – but that trying to do everything myself – writing, directing, acting, and editing – was just too risky. I proved them wrong. My bathroom is currently filled with computers processing the film, but I’m incredibly excited for people to finally see all the hard work, dedication, and effort everyone put into it.

The film Iron Lung finished production shortly before the tragic Titan submersible incident, which likely caused some delays in its release. Now, after a lot of effort from its creators, fans can finally see Iron Lung in cinemas this January, and it will become available to rent or stream online soon after.
