Actor David Corenswet, well-known for his roles in the DC Universe, has voiced his aspiration to be part of another significant series – Star Wars. Intriguingly, he opted for a role as a Jedi Knight rather than returning as Superman in a hypothetical Superman 2 film. Before joining the DCU, he had previously graced screens in shows such as The Politician, Hollywood, We Own This City, and Lady in the Lake.
Why did David Corenswet chose Star Wars over Superman 2?
During an interview for Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test, co-star Nicholas Hoult posed a tough question to Corenswet: he had to pick between reprising the role of Superman in the sequel or starring as a Jedi Knight in Star Wars. After pausing thoughtfully, Corenswet surprisingly opted for the Jedi Knight role, rather than taking on Superman again, leaving Hoult astounded by his candid response.
When asked about the toughest choice he’s ever faced, Corenswet acknowledged that it was one of the difficult ones, but added that he had already signed on for a possible Superman 2 project beforehand.
Eventually, it boiled down to finances. Although I’m currently bound by a contract for a sequel, I’d be happy to renegotiate with Star Wars – he playfully hinted at this.
At Superman’s media event, it’s worth noting that Corenswet has been quite open about his affection for Star Wars. During this interview, he even disclosed that he recently initiated an annual tradition: hosting a Star Wars movie marathon on New Year’s Eve.
The blockbuster film Superman was masterminded by James Gunn in terms of both scripting and direction; it’s a modern take on the DC characters originally dreamt up by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. In this iteration, Corenswet takes on the role of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo is cast as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce portrays Perry White, Mikaela Hoover steps into the shoes of Cat Grant, Beck Bennett becomes Steve Lombard, María Gabriela de Faría is The Engineer, Sara Sampaio plays Eve Teschmacher, Anthony Carrigan embodies Metarmorpho, Frank Grillo dons the role of Rick Flag Sr., Edi Gathegi and Isabela Merced are Hawkgirl and Green Lantern respectively, Nathan Fillion portrays Jonathan Kent, and Neva Howell takes on Martha Kent. The film also features Alan Tudyk, Michael Rooker, and Grace Chan in supporting roles. Nikolas Korda, Chantal Nong Vo, and Lars Winther serve as executive producers for this cinematic production.
Superman is now in theaters worldwide.
