The well-known villain actor Giancarlo Esposito is taking on a new project: an adaptation of one of Stephen King’s scariest stories. Esposito is best known for his role as the cool and dangerous Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He’s also played memorable villains in shows like The Mandalorian and The Boys.
I was really excited to read that Giancarlo Esposito is planning to bring his graphic novel, The Venetian (which he created with Matt Wheeler and Jay Martin), to life on screen! He also mentioned he’s nearly closed a deal to work with Guy Busick on a project based on Stephen King’s new novella, The Dreamers. It sounds like he has some amazing things in the works, and I can’t wait to see what he does with both of these stories.
Esposito is eager to work on horror projects. He’s teaming up with Guy Busick, the writer of Abigail, to develop a script. After focusing on television for a while, Esposito is now prioritizing film work, as he enjoys exploring different creative avenues and sees film as a key part of that.
Stephen King’s story, “The Dreamers,” is a chilling tale in the style of Lovecraftian horror. It centers around a Vietnam veteran who begins working for a strange scientist, assisting with experiments that explore the world of dreams. These experiments lead to unsettling findings. The story is featured in King’s 2024 collection, You Like It Darker, which has earned a 4.2 rating on Goodreads and includes eleven other stories.
Esposito has expressed a desire to take on diverse roles, and he’s now set to star in a new adaptation of “The Dreamers” with Busick. This comes after a year where he appeared in the films The Electric State and Captain America: Brave New World, both of which weren’t successful, as well as guest roles on the TV series The Residence, Poker Face, The Prophecy, and Gen V.
Though Giancarlo Esposito continues to deliver strong performances on television, many fans are hoping he’ll appear in higher-quality films. He recently mentioned his colleague’s successful movie, Abigail, which features Alisha Weir, Melissa Barrera, and Dan Stevens. Despite not performing well in theaters, Abigail—a horror film about a vampire and released in 2024—was well-received by critics and did well on streaming platforms, and Esposito was part of the cast in a villainous role.
Giancarlo Esposito is busy with several upcoming films, including By Any Means, The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, and Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. He’s also getting ready to star in a new Stephen King adaptation, which will inevitably be compared to other King projects. Both Esposito and his co-star, Busick, will bring unique talents to their roles, and Esposito may once again play a villain.
