Kardea Brown may be a chef, but she’s not interested in beef.
The celebrity chef responded to negative comments she received online after becoming Duff Goldman’s cohost on Kids Baking Championship earlier this year, following Valerie Bertinelli’s departure.
Kardea, 38, expressed her dismay on Facebook December 5th about the number of harsh comments she received on her latest post. She acknowledged viewers’ frustration with the current competition show format and their desire to see Valerie return, but explained she has no control over those decisions and that negative comments won’t make any difference.
The Emmy-winning actress also criticized those who have been unkind, pointing out they should be setting a better example for the show’s young viewers.
She pointed out that many adults seem to have forgotten the simple lessons we teach children – like being kind and only saying nice things. We need to remember basic manners, because social media has become filled with negativity and unhappiness, and it doesn’t need to be that way.
Kardea also noted that kids really enjoy baking competitions geared towards children, and responded to criticism by saying, “You don’t have to watch if it’s not your thing.”

Kardea recently responded to a comment on social media. The commenter expressed a preference for Valerie Bertinelli to return, after Kardea shared a preview for her new show, Baking Champions: Next Gen, which she co-hosts with Duff Goldman.
She replied, saying it was rude to make that comment on her personal profile. She explained that she doesn’t make decisions about the network and is just trying to do a good job.
When someone commented that the show felt different without Valerie, Kardea encouraged them to look at the new cast member as a positive change.
“You’re correct!” she replied. “I am not Valerie but I work just as hard and I deserve to be here.”
The new show, Baking Champions: Next Gen, will premiere on Food Network on January 5th. Find details on other shows coming in 2026 by continuing to read.
