World Trigger Has Disappointing News For Fans After Reboot Announcement

Created by Daisuke Ashihara, the manga World Trigger first appeared in Shonen Jump in 2013 and is praised for its detailed world and engaging story. While it has all the elements fans enjoy in a typical action manga, it hasn’t become a huge mainstream success, largely due to a disappointing anime adaptation and several breaks in the manga’s release schedule because of the author’s health. Originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump, the manga moved to a monthly schedule in Jump SQ in 2018 after a two-year hiatus. The anime finished its third season in January 2022, and instead of a fourth season announcement after a four-year wait, fans were surprised with a reboot.

Fans were shocked and thrilled to learn about a new manga adaptation, with many hoping it would address problems with the original anime that first aired over ten years ago. However, a recent announcement on the anime’s official X account revealed the reboot will completely remake the first season, covering the first 120 chapters of the manga up to the B-Rank Wars Arc. While this means the reboot will likely improve the pacing and animation of the initial season, there are concerns about the production process itself.

World Trigger’s Anime Reboot Might Be Limited to Season 1

The official X (formerly Twitter) account announced that a new anime project is in the works, adapting key story arcs from the original comic: the Border enlistment arc, the large-scale Neighbor invasion, and the beginning of the B-Rank Wars.

The account stated that production will continue with Toei Animation, similar to seasons two and three, and promises an even more exciting version of World Trigger Season 1.

The reboot project will only cover the first season of the anime; the entire series won’t be rebooted. More details about the reboot will be revealed at Jump Festa 2026, taking place on December 20th and 21st, 2025. World Trigger will have a presentation on the first day, from 4:20 PM to 4:50 PM Japan Standard Time. The official Jump Festa website promises a big announcement related to the anime, but hasn’t shared specifics yet.

Fans can look forward to meeting the voice actors behind their favorite characters, including Tomoe Muranaka (Yuma Kuga), Yuki Kaji (Osamu Mikumo), Nao Tamura (Chika Amatori), Yuichi Nakamura (Yuichi Jin), and Hideyuki Tanaka (Replica). The anime has almost finished adapting the second half of the B-Rank Wars Arc, and will move on to the highly-regarded Away Mission Test Arc next. This arc is split into two parts and is considered a standout in the manga. While there are enough manga chapters available for another season, Season 4 will be delayed because of the reboot.
