Benoit Blanc is back with a new case in Wake Up Dead Man, the newest movie in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out series. The film, expected on Netflix in 2025, is generating a lot of excitement, and people are already discussing it online. Interestingly, someone spotted a small technical mistake made by Netflix with the film’s promotion. Thankfully, Rian Johnson had a great response to the observation!
Netflix prioritizes accurate captions for its movies and shows, and generally does a great job. However, one viewer recently pointed out a funny mistake on X (formerly Twitter). A miscaptioned line made it seem like detective Benoit Blanc said, “Telling the truth can be a belly rub,” completely changing the meaning of his statement.
You’re not mistaken – that sentence is actually quite funny, and I’m still laughing about it! Rian Johnson is known for his clever writing, and his upcoming 2025 movie does have some surprisingly funny lines. But he wasn’t the one who wrote the bit about the “belly rub.” When he noticed the mistake, his reaction showed just how good-humored he is.
I can totally understand why the director of Looper might have been tempted to keep the subtitle error a secret – it’s just too funny! I really admire Rian Johnson’s sense of humor, and it’s great to hear he found it amusing too. The thought of Daniel Craig delivering that incorrect line with his Benoit Blanc accent is hilarious.
But this technical issue isn’t the only thing people are talking about regarding Wake Up Dead Man. Fans are also buzzing about the movie’s major plot twists and how well the actors performed. A lot of discussion centers on the connection between Daniel Craig and Josh O’Connor, who plays the new character, Reverend Jud Duplenticy.

Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man Review: The Best Knives Out Movie Is Also The Least Fun
I’m so excited about the new Benoit Blanc mystery! It follows the brilliant detective as he tries to figure out who killed a really controversial priest – and everyone thinks this guy, Duplenticy, did it. Of course, it’s packed with amazing actors like Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, and Glenn Close. I’ve been reading the reviews for Wake Up, and everyone is raving about Rian Johnson’s direction and writing, and how fantastic the whole cast is. It sounds incredible!
I’m already looking forward to the next Benoit Blanc mystery, and Rian Johnson has said there will be more movies after this one. We don’t know when the next film will come out, but for now, I’m enjoying seeing everyone’s reactions online. It’ll be hard to beat the excitement over the “belly rub” reveal, but I hope Rian Johnson shares his thoughts if anyone manages to top it.
You can now watch Wake Up Dead Man on Netflix. If you have a Netflix subscription, you can also enjoy the first film, Glass Onion.
