It turned out the statue teased for weeks at The Game Awards was from Larian Studios’ Divinity series, but the trailer that followed was truly shocking. Even fans familiar with the often-violent worlds of Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2, and Baldur’s Gate 3, were surprised by what they saw.
With players trying to understand the game’s connections to past titles, many are applauding Larian Studios for telling a complex story without shying away from difficult themes. Michael Douse, the studio’s publishing director, explained on Twitter that respecting the audience‘s intelligence was a key consideration during development.
The goal isn’t to surprise people, but to present ideas in a way they can truly understand and connect with. We believe people are capable of grasping complex concepts and appreciating depth.
Since this new game isn’t directly connected to Original Sin, people are wondering if Larian Studios will stick with the turn-based combat they’re known for, or try a real-time system. Regardless, this Divinity game will be their most ambitious project yet, even bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3.
The release date is still uncertain, as Larian Studios often releases games as early access versions first. Their previous game, Original Sin 2, was in early access for a year, while Baldur’s Gate took three years to fully launch, and even then needed updates to improve performance. Only time will tell when Larian is ready to announce details about Divinity.
