While Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 received a lot of attention and awards at The Game Awards, other games also stood out. Embark Studios’ ARC Raiders managed to win Best Multiplayer Game, even though it was up against popular titles like Elden Ring Nightreign, Battlefield 6, Split Fiction, and PEAK.
I wasn’t totally shocked to hear it, considering how many people are playing and how well the game is selling, but apparently this is just the start! Art director Robert Sammelin told PC Gamer they’ve got a full “10-year plan” for the game, and honestly, it sounds like they’re thinking even further ahead than that. It’s really exciting to think about what they have in store for the future!
We want to support this game for years to come. Because it’s a live game, we’re committed to keeping it fresh and engaging as long as players are enjoying it and see positive changes.
As a player, it’s cool to hear that the team at Embark, especially folks like Sammelin, totally get that the game won’t shape itself. They’re planning on watching how we, the community, actually play the game – what we enjoy, what we don’t – and use that to make it even better. They want to build on what works, but also keep things fresh with new challenges and ways to play. It sounds like they’re really committed to evolving the game with us, which is awesome.
We have many different options for how to proceed, and it’s still too early to know exactly which path we’ll take. However, we’ve had a consistent vision for this project for quite some time.
So, I’ve been keeping up with what the Embark team is planning, and it sounds like they’re really focused on adding more variety to the ARCs – those big, tough enemies we fight. They started with a limited number, but they’re definitely working on expanding that. Apparently, each new ARC type will open up different ways to challenge us. We already saw that with the North Line update – they dropped the Matriarch, which is even scarier than the Queen, and the Shredder, a close-combat ARC that basically hunts you down in Stella Montis. It’s cool to see them thinking about how each ARC will feel different to fight.
Tomorrow brings the Cold Snap update, introducing snowfall to the game. Along with the update, the first event, Flickering Flames, kicks off, and a new Raider Deck and quests become available. If you’re looking for a fresh start and new rewards, the Expedition will open on December 17th.
