Just as people were losing hope of hearing anything new about Bungie’s Marathon, the studio surprised everyone with a new video showcasing the game and announced it will be released in March 2026. The game will cost $39.99, €39.99, or £34.99. You can watch the latest gameplay footage below.
When the game launches, players will have access to four maps: Perimeter, Dire Marsh, Outpost, and the UESC Marathon’s Cryo Archive. The first part of the Cryo Archive will be available immediately and offers a difficult challenge for experienced players, with more content coming in Season 1. New features include the ability to chat with nearby players, a solo queue option, and a new playable character called Rook, who excels at finding resources.
The game also features several other enhancements, like Runner corpses that realistically decay over time and a richer, more detailed world to explore. Players can modify their weapons with attachments, fulfill tasks for different groups, and unlock new items and story details by completing a growing in-game encyclopedia.
The Cryo Archive is the first of several free updates coming to the game, adding new maps, characters, and events. Bungie is also making a change by removing expiration dates from Reward Passes, so you can complete them at your own pace. You can even buy older passes and work through them whenever you want. They’re also promising that success in the game won’t depend on how much money you spend.
We’ll share more information soon, including a release roadmap and details about when you can try the game – likely through a beta test. Marathon is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, so keep an eye out for updates.
