After years of anticipation, Bungie’s new extraction shooter, Marathon, will launch in just a few months – and it will cost less than the typical $70 price tag for new games. Bungie, the studio behind popular franchises like Halo and Destiny, is revisiting a series they originally created before Halo. A few years ago, they announced a reboot of Marathon as a live-service game where players extract items. Fans have been eagerly awaiting this game, and after some development challenges, it’s finally on track for release.
Bungie announced that Marathon will launch in March for $39.99, making it a great value. They’re adding even more value by ensuring the battle pass never expires, guaranteeing there are no ways to pay for advantages, and providing all updates – including new maps – as free content. After a period of silence, Bungie recently shared a detailed video showcasing their vision for the game, which you can watch below.
Marathon Has Had a Bumpy Development
The new release timeframe for Marathon is generating buzz, especially since it was originally planned for September. The game faced delays after players provided feedback from a summer test, noting it wasn’t quite ready and lacked important features like proximity chat. With games like Arc Raiders demonstrating how effective proximity chat can be, many hope Bungie will reconsider its decision, as it could significantly improve the game and boost its visibility on social media.
The game Marathon previously had issues with copied artwork, leading to a legal dispute that was recently resolved. This caused some negative publicity for the game. Bungie seems to have worked hard to improve Marathon, and it has the potential to be a good game. While some players think it should be free-to-play, Arc Raiders proved a $40 price point can still work. Ultimately, if Marathon is a quality game, it should do well.
