Get ready to return to the dangerous world of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl! A free update called Stories Untold arrives on December 16th, bringing new content to all platforms. This update follows the recent release of STALKER 2 on PlayStation 5, which came after a year of being exclusive to Xbox consoles.
Even though STALKER 2 isn’t out for over a year, the developers have been consistently updating and improving it with patches and enhancements to its simulation system, A-Life 2.0. Now, they’re starting to add new content, which is a promising sign that the expansions planned for after the game’s release are on their way.
New Quests, Locations, Characters, & Weapons Coming In Free STALKER 2 Content Update
Stories Untold Releases December 16
Mykyta Horodyvskyi, brand manager for GSC Game World, detailed the upcoming content for STALKER 2 in a recent PlayStation Blog post. The new DLC, called Untold Stories, will broadly include the following:
- Eight new quests
- Seven revamped locations
- Six new characters
- New unique weapon
- New hub area
The latest quest in STALKER 2 is quite lengthy, potentially taking several hours to finish. It’s set in the western areas of the game’s map and centers around a strange signal being broadcast across the Zone. Scientists at the Malachite facility are trying to figure out what it is, but it’s causing problems with communication devices. Those who’ve listened to the signal have reported experiencing symptoms like headaches, nosebleeds, and hallucinations.
The Untold Stories update returns players to familiar locations on the western side of the Zone, including Malachite, Red Forest, and the Burnt Forest, all with updated environments. You can explore places like the Old Mine in Red Forest and the Fairy Tale Pioneer Camp in the Burnt Forest as part of this free downloadable content. The new storyline will guide you through areas such as Car Dump, Army Warehouses, the City Boiler Room, a rail depot near Malachite, and the Volkhov SAM site.
The update introduces Professor Medulin and Banzai, who are investigating a strange signal. It also hints at other characters playing a role in the story and a new central location in the Burnt Forest. This hub will feature familiar traders, as well as a place to sleep and a secure storage container.
With the release of Untold Stories on December 16th, players of STALKER 2 will gain access to a new weapon: the GP37V2. This is an enhanced version of the GP37, featuring a suppressor, a low-zoom scope, and the ability to fire both single shots and short bursts.
Free DLC Paves The Way For STALKER 2 Expansions
More New Content Is On The Way
Honestly, this new free update feels like a really good sign for STALKER 2. For a while, it felt like the devs were just trying to fix all the launch issues – the A-Life system was pretty rough, and there were a ton of bugs and performance problems. But it’s been a year now, and they’ve done an amazing job getting the game running smoothly. Now it looks like they’re finally able to focus on adding new stuff, which is awesome!
The developers currently plan to release at least two major story expansions for STALKER 2. While details haven’t been revealed yet, these expansions are included with the game’s Ultimate Edition. Now that work on STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is shifting towards creating new content, we can expect to hear more about these expansions soon.
