Amazon and Ubisoft have reached an agreement where Ubisoft will now own and develop the MOBA game, March of Giants. This includes taking over the game’s development team, previously known as Amazon Games Montreal. Amazon will still help promote March of Giants on Twitch, but Ubisoft will be responsible for the game’s ongoing development and support.
March of Giants is a new game entering the competitive world of team-based strategy, a genre currently led by Dota 2 and League of Legends. Like those popular games, March of Giants features teams battling it out in lanes to destroy each other’s bases. The developers are aiming for a game that emphasizes strategic thinking and strong teamwork.
Ubisoft recently acquired the rights to March of Giants following successful closed alpha testing. Participants overwhelmingly responded positively, with 98% saying the game offers a fresh take on the MOBA genre. The development team includes experienced Ubisoft veterans: Xavier Marquis, the original creative director of Rainbow Six Siege, and Alexandre Parizeau, who previously worked at Ubisoft Toronto. Marquis serves as creative director, and Parizeau is the senior production leader for March of Giants.
Marquis stated that coming back to Ubisoft feels like a natural fit. “We created some of our best projects here, and we’re thrilled to continue working on March of Giants as part of the Ubisoft team. We believe this game has huge possibilities, and Ubisoft is the right partner to help us achieve them.”
Parizeau expressed gratitude to Amazon for their support during the early development of March of Giants. He highlighted that the game’s initial closed alpha test was a significant step and demonstrated its potential. Now, with the team joining Ubisoft, they are all working together to create March of Giants into a long-lasting and successful MOBA game.
Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft, believes their new game, March of Giants, is a great chance for the company to grow in the popular multiplayer gaming space. He also expressed excitement about welcoming back experienced developers Marquis and Parizeau to the Ubisoft team.
According to Guillemot, March of Giants has the potential to offer players something new and exciting, and help Ubisoft succeed in the competitive gaming market. They’re excited to have Alexandre, Xavier, and other experienced members of the March of Giants team – many of whom have worked at Ubisoft before – join the company. Ubisoft believes the team’s drive, imagination, and skills are a great fit for creating innovative games, and they’re committed to supporting them as they develop this promising new franchise.
March of Giants is being developed for PC and doesn’t yet have a release date.
