Every year brings a wave of new RPGs, and 2025 will be no different. However, many gamers still have a soft spot for older, retro RPGs and miss some of their features in modern games. Luckily, several long-running MMORPGs continue to offer that nostalgic experience, like Fallen Sword, a web-based game from 2004. This classic has provided free-to-play, old-school dungeon exploration for over two decades, and now, a sequel is on the way.
I was so excited when Hunted Cow Games announced Fallen Sword 2 on December 17th! As a long-time fan, I’ve been waiting for this! It’s coming out in the third quarter of 2026, just in time to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary. And it’s already on Steam, which is awesome – it looks like this sequel will be a different experience than the original Fallen Sword, which was entirely web-based. Here’s everything I’ve found out about it so far.
Fallen Sword 2 Will Usher In a New Era for the Fallen Sword Franchise

I still play the original Fallen Sword in my browser sometimes, and it’s cool that it’s still going strong with updates and a dedicated community. They even released a mobile version in 2021, which is awesome because you can play with people on any platform. But let’s be real, the game is showing its age a little bit. That’s why I’m really hyped to hear that Hunted Cow is working on a brand new Fallen Sword game – it’s exactly what the franchise needs!
Hunted Cow has announced that Fallen Sword 2 will be a new game inspired by the original Fallen Sword. While it takes place in the same world of Erildath, it will offer a completely fresh story. The game will have updated graphics and gameplay, but will still retain the classic, nostalgic feel that fans of the original enjoyed – including turn-based battles, a variety of hero classes, and large-scale guild battles against powerful Titans.
Similar to the first game, Fallen Sword 2 will be a free-to-play online multiplayer role-playing game featuring classic-style dungeon exploration. That’s all the information available about the recently announced sequel for now.
Hunted Cow Confirms Fallen Sword Isn’t Going Anywhere Alongside Sequel Announcement

If you’ve been playing Fallen Sword for a while like me, you might be wondering if this news means the original game is shutting down. But don’t worry, that’s not the case! The original MMORPG isn’t going anywhere. Fallen Sword 2 is actually going to be added as a way to give us even more to do in Erildath – it’s not a replacement. And if you’re like me and love your character name, you can even reserve your Fallen Sword username in Fallen Sword 2!
We don’t have a firm release date for Fallen Sword 2 just yet. But if you add it to your Wishlist on Steam, you’ll get special rewards in both Fallen Sword and the new sequel! So, if you’re excited about the next game, be sure to Wishlist Fallen Sword 2 on Steam.
