Kusanagi Mizuho’s historical fantasy manga, Yona of the Dawn, first appeared in Hana to Yume magazine in 2009 and quickly gained a devoted following thanks to its captivating story and beautiful artwork. An anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot in 2014 boosted the series’ popularity even further, building a large international fanbase despite only having one season that concluded in 2015. For over ten years, fans have eagerly anticipated a continuation of the anime, even as the manga neared its ending. After a decade with no updates, the future of the anime seemed uncertain, but the manga magazine recently announced that a sequel is now in production.
Fans are buzzing with excitement about a planned anime sequel, even as the original manga series nears its end. The manga will conclude on December 19th, 2025, after beginning its final storyline last year and officially announcing its ending in October. While many are sad to see Yona’s story finish after years of following it, the news of a sequel offers something to look forward to. The information was first shared by @MangaMoguraRE on X, a trusted source for anime and manga news, and has since been confirmed by other popular accounts like @hty_manga.
Yona of the Dawn’s Anime Sequel Will Continue The Journey

The first season concluded at a pivotal moment, just as Yona was beginning her quest to improve the Kouka Kingdom. Forced to flee Hiryuu Castle with Hak, Yona was devastated but determined to rebuild. Realizing her weakness would only lead to further suffering, she vowed to become stronger, even if it meant learning to fight – something she knew her father wouldn’t have approved of.
Yona and Hak set out on a quest to find four legendary Dragon Warriors. By the end of the first season, they were joined by Kija, Shin-ah, Jee-ha, and Zeno, along with Yoon, a brilliant young man who once lived with the Oracle. Yona is still figuring out her path forward, but the support and faith of those who believe in her give her the strength to make the best decisions.
The group faces an incredibly difficult journey ahead, but they’re prepared to overcome any obstacles. We’ll be following them as they travel throughout the Kouka Kingdom and beyond, discovering more about the world and the hardships faced by its people. You can currently watch the first season of the anime on Crunchyroll, and all 45 volumes of the manga are available for purchase in physical and digital formats on Viz Media’s website.
