Die Hard ranked a Christmas film in tight Channel 4 poll – as UK region with highest early festive viewing is revealed

A recent Channel 4 survey revealed that many people now consider Die Hard a Christmas movie, as the network shared insights into what viewers will be watching in 2025.

The broadcaster reported a strong year for streaming in 2025, with viewers watching a total of 69 billion minutes – a 14% increase compared to the previous year. They are continuing to prioritize growth in the streaming space.

According to recent data, people across the country began watching Christmas content surprisingly early this year. Viewers streamed a total of 87 million minutes of holiday films and shows in November, including favorites like Home Alone, Father Christmas, and Terry Pratchett’s The Abominable Snow Baby.

Additionally, Die Hard was officially considered a Christmas movie and was also streaming on Channel 4.

A recent poll by the broadcaster found that 39% of viewers consider the film to be a Christmas movie, while 37% don’t.

I was fascinated to learn that London really kicked off the Christmas spirit this year! They streamed a whopping 16 million minutes of Christmas content on Channel 4 in November – that’s incredible! The North West and East of England weren’t far behind, with 9 million minutes streamed in each region. It’s amazing how early people were getting into the festive mood!

Believe it or not, some people started celebrating Christmas in July! Eighty viewers tuned in to watch The Snowman on the hottest day of the year, getting a head start on the festive season.

As the weather got colder, more people tuned into ‘A Place in the Sun’. November was the show’s most popular month for streaming, reaching 2.14 million views.

Channel 4 has seen a lot of success with its streaming service this year, thanks to new shows like ‘Virgin Island.’ That show had the biggest launch for younger viewers in over two decades.

As a huge fan of what’s happening over at Channel 4, I was really excited to hear that Bonnie Blue: 1000 Men and Me became their most-watched documentary ever! And it wasn’t just that – their new detective show, Patience, had the biggest launch for a drama they’ve seen since It’s a Sin. Seriously impressive stuff!

Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer, Ian Katz, explained that viewers should have the freedom to watch their favorite shows on demand. However, he jokingly questioned why anyone would choose to watch The Snowman during hot weather.

We’re thrilled that popular shows like Virgin Island, Game of Wool, Patience, and Trespasses have helped Channel 4’s streaming service continue to grow. We anticipate millions of viewers will be watching these and other great programs they may have missed during the holidays.
