Here’s a quick look at some of the games on sale in the PlayStation Store for January, which are currently exclusive to PlayStation Plus members.

A Way Out (PS4)

$5.39/£4.49 (-82%)

Okay, so A Way Out is seriously unique – you have to play it with a friend. It’s built entirely around two-player co-op, and honestly, that’s what makes it so good. You and your buddy play as a couple of convicts breaking out of prison and trying to get payback on the people who wronged them. The story is really engaging, and everything is designed around teamwork, making it a fantastic experience when you’re playing with someone else.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon (PS5)

$29.99/£29.99 (-50%)

Okay, so FromSoftware, the guys behind Dark Souls and Elden Ring, went back to a series they started way before those games: Armored Core. This new one, the sixth main game, feels a lot like the older Armored Core titles – which might be a bit jarring if you’re used to their newer stuff. But honestly, it’s still a really solid game! You’re constantly jumping into missions, tweaking and upgrading your mech with new parts to dominate the battlefields of Rubicon. It’s consistently fun, though I wouldn’t say it’s quite as mind-blowing as some of the games FromSoftware is famous for now.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows (PS5)

$34.99/£34.99 (-50%)

Assassin’s Creed Shadows brings the action to Japan at last. Featuring two playable characters and a remarkably detailed open world, the game delivers a compelling story of revenge. It emphasizes stealth more than recent Assassin’s Creed titles, but still offers satisfying and challenging combat, giving players the best of both worlds. With memorable characters and a surprisingly thoughtful narrative, Shadows is a standout addition to the franchise.

Battlefield 6 (PS5)

$48.99/£48.99 (-30%)

Okay, so I’ve been playing Battlefield 6, and honestly, the multiplayer is incredible. It really throws you into the action with amazing gunfights and sound design – it feels like being in a war movie, which is what I always loved about Battlefield. The single-player campaign is okay, nothing special, and the Portal mode still needs a bit of work to really shine, but honestly, they’re just bonuses. This is easily the best Battlefield game I’ve played in years – it’s a total blast!

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (PS4)

$9.99/£8.74 (-75%)

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a fantastic game that feels like a tribute to classic Castlevania titles. It embraces a dark, over-the-top gothic style and gameplay reminiscent of older games, but it’s also incredibly well-made. Players are constantly encouraged to explore, and combat offers a lot of freedom and choice. Veteran Metroidvania fans will love this celebration of the genre created by one of its pioneers, and newcomers will find it easy to learn but hard to stop playing.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (PS5)

$35.99/£35.99 (-40%)

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake captures the magic of the original game brilliantly. This updated version of the classic RPG features improved quality-of-life features and beautiful 3D graphics, making it arguably the best way to experience the adventure – even though it still has a few of the same flaws as the original.

Elden Ring (PS5)

$38.99/£32.49 (-35%)

Elden Ring brilliantly takes a challenging but rewarding style of gameplay – perfected in games like Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne – and makes it accessible to a wider audience. This massive open-world game is packed with hidden wonders, and its mysterious design encourages players to truly explore every corner of its stunning world. Featuring deep and versatile combat, alongside incredibly difficult but satisfying boss fights, Elden Ring is a truly unforgettable game.

Elden Ring Nightreign (PS5)

$29.99/£26.24 (-25%)

Okay, so I’ve been playing Elden Ring Nightreign, and it’s… different. It’s probably going to split the FromSoftware fanbase, honestly. It’s not the super detailed, single-player RPG we’re used to from them. Instead, they’ve taken a lot of what made Elden Ring great and jammed it into a really fast-paced multiplayer game. It’s not as good as Dark Souls 3 or Elden Ring itself, but it’s not really trying to be. It feels like FromSoftware just letting loose and having some fun with their world. And honestly, if you get a group of friends together, Nightreign is a total blast to play!

Forza Horizon 5 (PS5)

$35.99/£32.99 (-40%)

Even though Forza Horizon 5 has been out for a while, it remains the best in its class thanks to its huge variety of things to do, comprehensive features, and excellent driving experience. It’s not without flaws – it can feel a bit too much at times, the computer-controlled opponents can be annoying, and the story and characters aren’t particularly strong. But when you’re driving, participating in events, and exploring the stunning open world, it’s hard not to enjoy its cheerful atmosphere and pure fun. It still feels brand new, even on PS5 despite arriving there later.

Gotham Knights (PS5)

$6.99/£6.49 (-90%)

Gotham Knights, a game building on the world of the Batman: Arkham series, tries a new approach with cooperative gameplay similar to Destiny. While it doesn’t quite reach the same heights as Rocksteady’s acclaimed Batman games, it still offers a decent story and fun combat that can provide some entertainment for a while.
