It appears that the public is thoroughly enjoying Superman, with the opening box office numbers suggesting the movie is set for a triumphant run at the theater.
Based on Deadline’s report, the film starring David Corenswet earned approximately $123 million in its opening weekend on July 12th.
If verified, it appears that Superman would rank as the second most successful opening for a Superman film, trailing slightly behind the 2016 release of Batman vs. Superman, which earned approximately $166 million on its debut.
This could also serve as an excellent kick-off for a standalone Superman film before Man of Steel (2013), and it’s worth noting that this would be director James Gunn’s second-highest grossing opening, trailing only behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
So, an all-round success, it seems.

A significant stride forward for Gunn’s DC Universe, early critiques of the film indicate that Superman has managed to win over skeptics. With a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 82% (based on 349 reviews), many have praised Gunn’s skill in giving new vitality to a character long cherished by fans.
In this latest blockbuster hit, “Batman v Superman,” Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill step into the limelight playing their respective iconic characters. This movie serves as a sequel to “Man of Steel” and marks the first live-action film where these two legendary figures share the screen together.
Despite the fact that Superman is a beloved fictional superhero, some viewers might find the movie’s theme on “human kindness” objectionable, as director James Gunn had earlier suggested to The Sunday Times that the film is essentially a narrative about “America.
A person who moved here from another land contributed significantly to our country’s population. For him, this experience underscores the importance of fundamental human kindness, which unfortunately seems to be a value we no longer fully embrace.
> The theme revolves around humanity’s compassion, and some people may misunderstand this as an opportunity to be unkind. However, let’s focus on the majority who appreciate such sentiments.
In a first standalone live-action adventure since 2013’s Man of Steel, the new Superman film boasts an impressive ensemble cast led by Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan. Additionally, audiences will catch a brief glimpse of Milly Alcock as Supergirl in a cameo role.
