What if Andrea Swift told you that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce meeting wasn’t accidental? 

Taylor Swift’s mother admitted she played a part in setting up Taylor’s first meeting with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce. She shares Taylor and her brother, Austin, with Scott Swift.

During the fifth episode of her documentary, The Eras Tour: End of an Era, Andrea told Taylor she’d seen online that a fan had come to one of her shows with a friendship bracelet and was hoping to meet her.

The 67-year-old, known for being very close to her daughter, said she carefully checked out Travis before telling Taylor about him.

I asked my cousin Robin, who’s a big Kansas City Chiefs fan, about Travis Kelce. She immediately said he’s incredibly kind and really close to his mother. That’s when I knew he was special!

Andrea playfully explained that after that, convincing Taylor to meet him became a real challenge. She remembered thinking, “How am I going to make this happen?”

Taylor confessed she’d always felt awkward around athletes, explaining, ‘I’m not an athlete myself, and I worried about not having anything in common with them.’

The Grammy-winning singer playfully explained that what convinced her mother to approve of Travis was how different he was from the kinds of guys she usually dated.

Taylor remembered being told, ‘I know you’re not going to like this, but there’s someone I want you to meet.’ The person also suggested, ‘You need to try something new.’

Indeed, Andrea emphasized that Travis had won her over even before the now-engaged couple met. 

She said he was really cute and that his gesture was so genuine. She was touched that he came to my show, especially since he brought a gift that reminded me of home. She thought it was incredibly sweet and really meant a lot to her.

Honestly, I wasn’t worried about Taylor and Travis not having much in common at first. It turned out she actually got into football, and quickly! She really became knowledgeable about the game, which was amazing to see.

She explained that on their first date, he had to break down the rules of football for her. He described it as a fast-paced, aggressive version of chess, which actually helped her grasp the concept. After that, she quickly became infatuated with him, and as a result, she became eager to learn everything about football.

As she put it, “Greatest surprise of my life.”

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce first connected in July 2023 when Swift’s Eras Tour visited Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Being a big fan of Taylor Swift, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end tried to give her a friendship bracelet with his jersey number on it at her concert. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to reach her because she was busy preparing for the show.

You know, as someone who loves a good concert experience, I totally get being a little bummed when you can’t connect with the artist! Travis Kelce shared on his podcast that Taylor Swift doesn’t chat much before or after her shows because she’s really protecting her voice – she sings 44 songs each night, which is incredible! He admitted he was a little disappointed he couldn’t give her one of the friendship bracelets he made, and honestly, who wouldn’t be? It’s sweet he put in the effort, and I can relate to wanting to share that little gesture of support.

After jokingly talking about dropping the football – something he’d later call incredibly cool – Travis decided to take a chance and invited the famous singer to come to a Kansas City Chiefs game.

He explained on The Pat McAfee Show that he challenged Taylor Swift, saying he’d noticed her performing at Arrowhead Stadium and suggested she come see him perform there too, to see who gets a bigger reaction from the crowd. He said they’ll see if anything comes of it soon.

Travis had grown a mustache, first showing it off in August during football training camp, and that’s how Taylor first met him.

He later recalled that his mustache and number 87 jersey were a memorable look during that time, and he was sporting them when he first met Taylor.

According to a source, Travis and Taylor began communicating by text and phone calls around the beginning of September.

“It’s been very low-key,” the insider explained, “as he’s been in season.”

Taylor Swift accepted Travis Kelce’s invitation and went to Arrowhead Stadium to see him and the Kansas City Chiefs play the Chicago Bears, accompanied by Travis’s mom, Donna Kelce. After the game, Taylor and Travis were photographed showing affection for each other at a nearby bar.

Despite rumors that they met for the first time in person, the singer of “Karma” explained that they had actually known each other for quite a while before that.

As Taylor noted, “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.” 

To show how serious things were getting, Taylor brought a group of her friends – including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, and Antoni Porowski – to see the Chiefs play the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

As a dedicated follower of Taylor and Travis, I’ve noticed something really sweet! Taylor has been getting close to Brittany Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes’ wife and one of Travis’ best friends. They’ve been hanging out both at and away from the games, and it’s just another sign that things between Taylor and Travis are getting serious. It feels like she’s really becoming part of his inner circle!

The couple showcased their relationship on television with a surprise appearance on the October 14th episode of Saturday Night Live. They continued the celebration with the show’s after-party and a romantic dinner at the Waverly Inn.

During his team’s break, Travis flew to Argentina to see Taylor Swift perform as part of her Eras Tour. While there on November 11th in Buenos Aires, he connected with Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, and Taylor even gave him a special mention during the concert.

“Karma is that guy on the Chiefs,” Taylor sang, “coming straight home to me.”

Okay, so after her incredible performance, I spotted Taylor rushing backstage and immediately meeting Travis with a really sweet, passionate kiss. It was a super cute moment – you could just feel the connection between them! Definitely a highlight from the night.

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis’ games.

She told Time magazine that she’s excited to support him doing what he’s passionate about, and they’re both there for each other, not worrying about who else is around. She contrasted this with the lengths some people go to in order to keep a relationship secret.

 

The famous singer made Travis’ game on December 17th a family event, bringing her father along to support her boyfriend.

Taylor and Travis rang in the New Year together, and shared a kiss at midnight on January 1st.

Taylor continued getting to know Travis’ family and spent time with his brother, Jason Kelce, and sister-in-law, Kylie Kelce, while attending the Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills.

Okay, so you guys saw it too – it was such a sweet moment! After the Chiefs clinched their spot in the Super Bowl with that amazing AFC Championship win, I saw Taylor running onto the field to celebrate with Travis. They were totally glowing, sharing a kiss and even saying ‘I love you’ to each other. It was a really special, genuine display of affection, and honestly, it just felt good to witness!

“Tay, I’m gonna enjoy with the guys,” he told her. “I love you—so much it’s not funny.”

 
 

After Travis helped the Kansas City Chiefs win on February 11, 2024, in Las Vegas, he and his partner shared a kiss on the field.

On February 12th, Taylor shared a video of Travis online, jokingly showing how she brought her parents to a club with him after the Super Bowl.

They spent the NFL off-season together, taking a snowy trip to Montana with sports reporter Erin Andrews.

In July 2025, Travis shared the first photos of him and Taylor together on Instagram. One cute picture, taken during dinner, also happened to show that they both had photos of each other set as their phone lockscreens.

Taylor Swift, a self-proclaimed big fan of the New Heights podcast, appeared on an almost two-hour-long special episode with Travis and Jason Kelce on August 13th. During the conversation, she openly shared details about her life with Travis, both publicly and privately, and announced the title of her upcoming twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, which will be released on October 3rd.

Over two years after Travis mentioned Taylor on his podcast, sparking a lot of buzz, the couple announced their engagement. They playfully referenced Taylor’s song “So High School” in an Instagram post on August 26th, sharing photos of their engagement and writing, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
