A science fiction series featuring a former star from the hit show Lost has recently become available on Netflix, offering it a fresh opportunity to gain an audience. Lost was once one of the most popular sci-fi shows on television, known for its intricate and often captivating story about plane crash survivors stranded on a mysterious island. The show boasted a talented cast including Matthew Fox, Naveen Andrews, Jorge Garcia, Josh Holloway, Evangeline Lilly, and Dominic Monaghan. Monaghan later attempted a new sci-fi series on AMC in 2022, but despite being well-received, it was cancelled after a single season.
After being cancelled by AMC three years ago, the series Moonhaven has found a new home on Netflix. Netflix added the show on December 17th, giving viewers a chance to discover what they missed and understand why a second season was originally planned before AMC’s cancellation.
Why Was Moonhaven Cancelled After One Season?

Moonhaven was a science fiction show on AMC about a seemingly perfect colony on the moon. This society was created with the goal of finding solutions – both technological and cultural – to save a struggling Earth. The show originally appeared on AMC+, the streaming service linked to the cable channel, and had six episodes. While reviews were mixed to positive, Moonhaven performed well with AMC+ subscribers and was quickly picked up for a second season.
Despite being a well-received show with good ratings, the future of Moonhaven was ultimately decided by changes at AMC. After initially renewing it in July 2022, a leadership shift and cost-cutting measures at the network led to its cancellation in December. Things quickly worsened when AMC+ removed the first season from its streaming service by the end of the year, effectively erasing the series from view. What had begun as a promising sci-fi show quickly disappeared.
Why Moonhaven is Worth Watching on Netflix?

Okay, fellow sci-fi fans, I’m thrilled to say Netflix is bringing back Moonhaven! Honestly, it felt like AMC+ wanted to bury this gem, but thankfully Netflix stepped in. The first season was short – only six episodes – but it grabbed my attention right away. It didn’t explode onto the scene quite like Lost did back in the day, but starting with a murder was a brilliant move. It immediately set up this compelling mystery that drove the whole season, especially since these colonists were all trying to get back to Earth.
Dominic Monaghan wasn’t the only familiar face in Moonhaven. He acted with Joe Manganiello, and Emma McDonald completed the show’s main cast. Despite its performance on Netflix, it’s unlikely AMC will bring the show back for another season. Because AMC still owns Moonhaven, Netflix can only offer it as a streaming option for fans. Hopefully, this will lead to more people discovering the show, as the first season is worth watching even if it doesn’t get continued.
