Kojima Productions is busy with both OD and Physint. But Hideo Kojima, who eventually wants to direct movies, is also looking ahead to create something completely new – a brand new genre of entertainment.
In a recent Wired interview where he answered fan questions, Hideo Kojima discussed his desire to create a completely new genre of game. He explained he’s not very interested in sticking to established genres. When asked about potential settings, Kojima mentioned hard science fiction and space, as he’s a big fan of both. He also considered Westerns, but noted period pieces have already been done extensively. He’s currently exploring his options to find something fresh.
It would fit with his recent projects if he were to define a new genre, considering Death Stranding was originally labeled a “Strand Game.” OD will also significantly change how the game is serviced, but Kojima isn’t yet sharing details about this new system and isn’t even sure it will be successful.
Physint is particularly intriguing – when it was first announced, the director described it as a unique blend of interactive game and movie, encompassing everything from the story and acting to the visuals and music. So far, Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-Seok, and Minami Hamabe have been confirmed as cast members, but the project was still being developed conceptually as of August.
We don’t have release dates for OD or Physint yet, but we’ll share updates when we have them. We might also get news about a PC version of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach soon.
