Flight Attendant Helped Deliver "Tiny" Baby in Airplane Bathroom

I was absolutely amazed by the story of Diana Giraldo and Shakeria Sullivan, two extraordinary women who found themselves in an unexpected and life-changing situation during a flight from Denver to Orlando. As a dedicated follower of such inspiring stories, I can’t help but be in awe of their bravery and quick thinking.

One Florida mom is thinking back to one of the most stressful moments of her life.

On a Frontier Airlines flight from Denver to Orlando on January 16, 2022, at the age of 29 and seven months pregnant, Shakeria Sullivan was headed closer to her mother. Unexpectedly, during this journey, she began having contractions.

In an interview with People, published on July 17, she shared, “I needed to summon the flight attendant, and that’s when things began unfolding rapidly.”

Fortunate for Shakeria, skilled lead flight attendant Diana Giraldo took charge when nobody else could help, stepping up to assist in delivering the baby during the flight.

Diana shared with the media that she “strived to remain fully engaged and attentive, providing my best care” during the delivery. They proceeded to the aircraft’s rear bathroom where, as Diana remembered, Shakeria delivered a newborn baby girl “in a reasonable amount of time.”

Shakeria and I exchanged shocked gazes, amazed by the recent turn of events. I exclaimed, “Wow, you’re now a mother!”

Yet, they discovered shortly that the infant wasn’t taking breaths. In response, Diana acted swiftly, initiating CPR on the newborn and placing an oxygen mask over its face.

“The baby was tiny,” the 36-year-old remembered. “She fit in the palm of my hand.”

At the tense moment of Shakeria’s delivery, the cabin crew member was greatly admiring her courage, remarking that she displayed remarkable bravery.

I’m thrilled beyond words that we managed to pull off an emergency landing at the Pensacola International Airport in Florida. The moment we touched down, medical teams rushed to our aid, swiftly taking the mother and daughter to a nearby hospital. What a relief!

Above all, the extraordinary tale of Shakeria and Diana comes with a satisfying conclusion. Currently, Jadalyne Sky, Shakeria’s precious daughter, is a busy 2-year-old.

“She is very, very smart,” her mom added. “She loves to be outdoors.”

And Diana keeps up with the family, sending Jadalyne presents for her birthday and Christmas.

“From what her mom says, she’s a little troublemaker,” she noted. “She’s a firecracker.”
