This week, users of the newly launched Nintendo Switch 2 can enjoy a fresh GameCube game through Nintendo Switch Online. If you’re still using the original Nintendo Switch, you might feel somewhat sidelined since the GameCube Nintendo Classics app is exclusively for the new system. However, there’s currently a sale on the eShop that runs until July 9th, offering gamers a chance to purchase two classic games initially released on the system at reduced prices. Whether you were one of the owners of Nintendo’s purple console or simply missed out on that era, this is a deal worth considering.
You can grab the Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster for just $19.99 if you’re a Switch owner, which usually sells for $49.99! This bundle contains two role-playing games that were initially GameCube exclusives: Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and Baten Kaitos Origins. Not only is this the lowest price ever for this compilation, but it means each game effectively costs just $10 – a fantastic bargain! These RPGs were highly praised when they first came out, so if you’re a fan of the genre, it might be worth checking them out while the discount lasts.

For those not acquainted with the GameCube, the name Baten Kaitos might ring unfamiliar, but the developer behind these games could be somewhat recognizable to Nintendo Switch users; both titles were developed by Monolith Soft. In 2007, Nintendo purchased Monolith Soft from Bandai Namco, not long after the debut of Baten Kaitos Origins. Fast forward to 2010, and the studio released the original Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, kick-starting a successful RPG series that has persisted throughout the Switch era. Sadly, the Baten Kaitos series has mostly concluded due to this acquisition, but there are subtle nods to these games in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The remastered versions of “Baten Kaitos I & II” can be played on the Nintendo Switch 2 as well as the original system, providing an opportunity for upgraded users to enjoy them. However, neither game from this set has been officially announced for the GameCube app on Nintendo Switch Online at this time. It’s possible that could change in the future, but it appears rather improbable given the release of this remastered collection. Many third-party publishers have opted to focus their support on their own compilation games instead of Nintendo Switch Online’s Classic apps, with the aim of boosting sales towards their collections.
As long as Nintendo Classics for GameCube only comes on the yet-to-be-released Nintendo Switch 2, numerous top-tier games initially released on that console have been made accessible through the eShop over time. For instance, Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster is merely one of many offerings, with plenty more to discover. Ranging from first-party hits like Metroid Prime and Pikmin, to third-party titles such as Cel Damage and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, the original Nintendo Switch has managed a fairly substantial selection of GameCube games. Although it’s not quite as convenient as a dedicated app, it nonetheless provides players an opportunity to enjoy some of the finest games that system had in store.
