Batman and Superman’s secret identities have been revealed, which seems like a major event. Typically, when a hero publicly reveals who they are, it causes a big reaction among fans – remember when Superman came out as Clark Kent? And, of course, revealing a hero’s identity puts their family and friends in danger. So, it’s surprising that the recent leak of Batman and Superman’s identities isn’t being treated as a bigger issue.
Recently, in the comic Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, a new detail about the heroes’ past has come to light. This series explores the early days of Batman and Superman’s careers, presenting a retro yet modern take on their adventures. It’s been revealing previously unknown events from their history, some of which are now causing problems, like their run-in with the villain Nezha, who played a key role in the Lazarus Planet storyline. This new development adds another layer to their already complex history, and it’s interesting to see how DC will address it going forward.
Joker and Lex Luthor Revealed Who Batman and Superman Were Years Ago
A shocking turn of events in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #46 by Mark Waid, Adrián Gutiérrez, and Vincente Cifuentes has seen the Joker and Lex Luthor combined into a single, terrifying entity. Thanks to an alien artifact called the Absorbascon, they’ve become ‘the Merger,’ possessing Luthor’s intelligence and the Joker’s sadistic nature. Even more dangerous, the Absorbascon grants them access to all of human knowledge and allows them to spread the Joker’s insanity globally.
Batman and Superman realize they can’t defeat this threat on their own, so they decide to fight back with equal force. Remembering a tactic from early in their adventures, they enlist Green Lantern’s help to combine their powers and become Superbat. Superbat then races to locate and shut down the source of the problem, preventing it from harming people around the globe.
The Merger attacks Superbat with kryptonite, but Superbat’s half-Kryptonian heritage allows him to withstand the blow. The two heroes then engage in a physical fight, but the Absorbascon gives the Merger a significant advantage – complete knowledge of everything, including Superbat’s fighting style. Even more shockingly, the Merger reveals the secret identities of both Batman and Superman by name. The comic ends on a dramatic note, as the Merger uses the Absorbascon to share this information with the world, exposing Batman and Superman to their allies and enemies alike.
What Did Superman and Batman Do to Get Their Secret Identities Back?

This story takes place in the past of the main DC Universe, where everyone found out Bruce Wayne was Batman and Clark Kent was Superman. That’s a huge development, considering how carefully DC Comics has always protected those secret identities. Of course, those secrets are safe again now, but the big question is: how did they manage to keep it quiet, and will it cause problems for them down the road?
As a long-time comic book reader, I was really surprised to learn that Batman and Superman went through something like their own ‘One More Day’ – though thankfully, it didn’t involve a deal with the devil! It struck me that they could have easily fixed things with the Absorbascon, making everyone forget, but Mark Waid isn’t that kind of writer. He likes to bring things back around. We saw it with Nezha in Lazarus Planet, and with Boy Thunder eventually becoming Magog in Kingdom Come, so I have a feeling whatever happened here won’t be swept under the rug either.
I really believe Batman and Superman will regain their secret identities, but I don’t think it’s going to be a simple fix. I have a feeling they had to do something to cause the world to forget who they are – maybe something connected to a past secret, potentially even something we’d see hinted at in a show like Justice League Unlimited. I’m hoping DC doesn’t just brush this whole thing under the rug and actually gives us a solid explanation for how their identities were revealed in the first place.
