EastEnders airs emotional return for iconic character in early BBC iPlayer release

Great news for EastEnders fans! Pat Evans, played by Pam St Clement, is back in Albert Square.

Her return is happening a bit sooner than expected; she wasn’t scheduled to be on until tomorrow’s show.

The conversation started with Phil Mitchell and Julie Bates discussing whether to put Julie’s husband, Nigel, who has dementia, into a care home.

He’s been living with Phil for about a year, and they’ve already argued about his care.

Okay, things are getting really difficult to watch with Nige. His health is clearly declining, and last week he unfortunately injured Julie, giving her a nasty bruise around the eye. But today’s episode brought something even more heartbreaking to light – he’s now experiencing incontinence. It’s a tough situation, and it’s becoming increasingly clear how much care he needs.

Phil and Julie tried to appear confident before the screening of his movie, but things didn’t go as hoped. When Phil began speaking to the audience, the projector lights revealed Julie’s injuries.

He sensed something was wrong, and she told him it was a mistake. However, that didn’t prevent a scene – he angrily left, with everyone looking on.

I have to say, the scene on Turpin Road really got to me. Phil and Julie were closing in on this man, and when they started talking about putting him in a care home, it was just…awkward. Poor Nigel overheard the whole thing! They had to quickly explain they weren’t talking about him, which thankfully diffused the situation, but it was a tense moment for everyone involved.

Walking by himself, he found his past memories mixing with the present. The sound of a party drifted from the otherwise quiet Queen Vic pub, and stepping inside, Nigel felt instantly transported back to the 1990s.

Someone took a photo with a Polaroid, there was a lot of shiny tinsel everywhere, people were smoking, and the statue of the Queen was painted a pale white.

Most importantly, Pat was sat in a booth. Cue the doof doofs!
