Okay, so the team that made Game Dev Story – you know, that awesome, addictive little management sim? – they’ve got a new game coming to PS5 and PS4! It’s based on KochiKame, which is a really popular manga series that’s been going for ages. I’m super curious to see how they turn that into a game!
The developer has experience with this type of game, having recently launched a strategy simulation based on Doraemon. Therefore, a game based on KochiKame feels like a logical next step for them.
KochiKame: Ryo-san’s Billion-Yen Beat follows Officer Ryotsu Kankichi as he tries to save a failing shopping area and become a billionaire.

If you haven’t read it before, the KochiKame manga ran for an incredible 40 years, from 1976 to 2016, and ended up with a total of 201 volumes. It’s a funny series about the mishaps of a police officer.
Here’s a little more about how the gameplay will be structured:
Begin by saving up some initial funds through gambling and odd jobs. Then, build successful businesses throughout the shopping area. As the area becomes popular, you’ll attract more customers and earn more money – just be careful not to get caught by the Chief if you’re not working!
The adaptation will include beloved characters and key plot points from the original manga.
