Halo Infinite ended on a note that clearly set up future stories, potentially through a sequel or, more likely, downloadable campaign content. It’s now known that plans for this campaign DLC did exist, but were ultimately cancelled. This information comes from reports by Rebs Gaming, which detailed the project’s initial ideas and its eventual abandonment.
Halo Infinite was initially planned as a game that would be continually updated and expanded over a decade, creating a long-term experience for players. However, the final version of the game didn’t live up to those original, expansive goals.
It took about four years for Halo Infinite to catch up in terms of features and content to the game Halo: Reach, but now most fans consider it a good addition to the Halo series. Some even believe it’s the best game 343 Industries has made so far, and they’ve just announced a follow-up – though it’s not a traditional sequel.
How Halo continues its story outside of games

Without giving away any details from after Halo Infinite, the Halo games developed by 343 Industries and now Halo Studios haven’t felt as connected as they used to. Although I had some problems with how it played, Halo 4 was a good start and continued the story from Halo 3 in a way that made sense.
Unfortunately, after this point, the main Halo games didn’t feel as connected to each other. The story made a big leap between Halo 4 and Halo 5, and players who hadn’t read the novels or other expanded content were often confused by the introduction of a new group of Spartans called Blue Team, who hadn’t appeared in the games before.
The situation became even more confusing because many fans consider the story of Halo 5 to be the worst in the series. Because of this, a lot of its plot points were dropped and the story moved in a new direction with Halo Infinite. While this was probably a good move, the game didn’t do much to explain things for players who hadn’t followed the story elsewhere – particularly since the ending of Halo 5 is actually found in a book, not in the game itself.
It’s not unusual for Halo stories to continue outside of the main games. For example, after Halo 3: ODST, the character Buck – a popular figure with fans – had his story expanded upon in Halo: New Blood. This continuation explored what happened after ODST, including how Buck eventually joined the Spartan IV program.
The Halo Infinite sequel

In case you haven’t heard, the next installment in the Halo story isn’t a game – it’s a book! Called Halo: Edge of Dawn, it was written by Kelly Gay and came out just last week.
She’s a respected author known for her work in the Halo universe, including multiple popular novels, as well as her original series, Gods and Monsters and Charlie Madigan.
As a huge Halo fan, I was so excited to jump right back into the story after Halo Infinite, and this book does exactly that! It doesn’t feel like a separate adventure; it’s a true continuation of what we played. We finally learn more about the mysterious Endless, and get to know the name of the AI that’s joined Master Chief after Cortana – she’s called the Weapon. Plus, the book really digs into the secrets of Zeta Halo, giving us a much deeper understanding of the whole ring. It’s fantastic!
The story introduces a key question about where the Halo series is headed. When the next Halo game comes out, will it assume players are familiar with these new story points, or will it re-explain things that have already been established in the novels? The series has historically avoided repeating itself in that way.
As a long-time fan and reader of the novels – which are all excellent – it’s frustrating that key plot points aren’t reaching a wider audience. Sometimes it feels like Halo is evolving more as a book series, with the games simply serving to advance the story.
