Superman: James Gunn Confirms Filming Has Wrapped

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for comic book lore and cinematic storytelling, I must say that the upcoming Superman movie under James Gunn‘s direction is nothing short of electrifying. With my fingers crossed and eyes glued to the news feeds, I have been eagerly awaiting updates on this project since its announcement.

James Gunn’s “Superman” movie is now one step closer to becoming reality. On Tuesday, Gunn shared on Instagram that filming for “Superman” has been completed, with just over a year left until its scheduled release in July 2025. The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and will be the first movie in Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe to hit the big screen. Gunn shared a photo from the Norway set of the film with himself, Safran, Corenswet, and other cast and crew members.

“In conclusion, it’s time to call it a day,” Gunn wrote in his post. “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our cast and crew whose dedication, ingenuity, and perseverance have breathed life into this project. I aimed to create a film about a noble character amidst an unforgiving world. Yet, the kindness, goodness, and love that I’ve witnessed daily on set have uplifted me when I felt drained and motivated me to carry on. Thank you all from the depths of my soul. It has been a privilege. The final destination might have been Superman, but the journey was the struggle, laughter, emotions, and creative ideas we’ve experienced together on set – and for that, I am eternally grateful. Superman‘s Cast and Crew

According to DC Studios, Superman narrates his tale about his voyage to harmonize his Kryptonian roots with his upbringing as Clark Kent from Smallville, Kansas. He represents honesty, fairness, and a brighter future, steered by human compassion in a world that considers compassion outdated.

Additionally starring Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Mariá Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica / The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason / Metamorpho, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe in this production.

The DC Universe Slate

As a lifelong fan of DC Comics, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming slate of movies and TV shows from DC Studios! Having grown up reading Superman comics and watching animated series like Batman: The Animated Series, it’s truly exciting to see these beloved characters coming to life on the big and small screen.

In January of 2023, Gunn clarified that while many believe it will be similar to Marvel 2.0, he emphasized several differences. He learned a great deal at Marvel, but this project is unique. They are crafting a major narrative comparable to Marvel, yet more methodically planned out from the start since they have a team of writers working together on the story in its entirety. Simultaneously, they are developing a universe like Star Wars or Game of Thrones, with various timelines, locations, and characters that possess moral complexities.

Superman will be released exclusively in theaters on July 11, 2025.
