Daniela Melchior Gives Disappointing Update On Ratcatcher’s DCU Return, 4 Years After The Suicide Squad

Four years after The Suicide Squad came out, Daniela Melchior, who played Ratcatcher 2, has shared some disheartening news about the character’s role in the new DC Universe. While several of her former teammates are continuing in the DCU’s “Gods and Monsters” era, it doesn’t look like Ratcatcher 2 will be joining them.

During a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan about the movie Anaconda, actress Daniela Melchior was asked about the possibility of returning as Ratcatcher in future DC Universe projects. While she doesn’t have any official confirmation, Melchior expressed her strong desire to reprise the role, and even suggested she’d be interested in playing a more mature version of the character. Here’s what she had to say:

ScreenRant: We first met when you were doing The Suicide Squad.

Daniela Melchior: That was my first project in the States!

ScreenRant: Have you heard if we’ll see Ratcatcher again?

I’m not sure what the future holds, but I’d really like to revisit the role. I’ve changed a lot, both as a person and an actress, and I’ve even improved my English. It would be fun to see if James Gunn would be interested in a more mature take on Ratcatcher. I try not to dwell on it too much, though, because it makes me sad.

ScreenRant: I think he loves that character.

Daniela Melchior: Me too.

Several characters from The Suicide Squad, including Peacemaker (John Cena), Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), John Economos (Steve Agee), Weasel (Sean Gunn), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), and Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman), have also appeared in the DC Universe.

Several characters appear across multiple DC shows. Harcourt Smith and Economos are key players in Peacemaker season 2, and we see the late Rick Flag through flashbacks and in a different dimension. In the animated series Creature Commandos, Weasel joins the team alongside Economos and Waller, and Smith makes a brief appearance in Superman.

Although there aren’t any definite plans for Ratcatcher 2 to reappear, a return is still possible. Many other characters from The Suicide Squad are already featured prominently in the new DC Universe, which makes her comeback a real possibility.

Just like John Cena’s character evolved from The Suicide Squad to Peacemaker season 2, Daniela Melchior wants to see her character, Ratcatcher 2, grow and change too. Ratcatcher 2 has already come a long way from being a ruthless killer in Corto Maltese, and Melchior believes there’s a lot more potential to explore her development.

The first new shows and movies coming from the DCU will be Lanterns and Supergirl, both scheduled to premiere in 2026. A sequel to the Superman movie, titled Man of Tomorrow, is planned for 2027. Although Ratcatcher 2 might unexpectedly show up in one of these upcoming projects, it’s more probable that she’ll reappear in a future story.

Fans would likely be thrilled to see Ratcatcher 2 return and team up with Smith and other characters from The Suicide Squad again. She’s become a popular character since the 2021 film and has a lot of potential for future stories as the DC Universe grows.
