2025 was a fantastic year for manga. Although total sales weren’t record-breaking, the quality of new releases was exceptional, offering plenty of great content for both longtime fans and newcomers.
Many ongoing manga series continued to be enjoyable in 2025, and the new titles released throughout the year were also impressive, both in terms of artwork and storytelling. Several of these new series were particularly strong and have the potential to become long-running favorites.
10) Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Exceeds

Masaki Tsuzuki and Shuichi Kawakami’s Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Exceeds is the newest installment in the Lyrical Nanoha series. Set a few years after the Reflection and Detonation movies, 13-year-old Nanoha is now part of the Time-Space Administration Bureau’s Exceeds unit. Her latest assignment involves looking into a planet’s cruel search for an enigmatic witch.
It’s been nearly ten years since fans last saw new content from the Nanoha series. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Exceeds is a fantastic return, boasting exciting action and well-developed characters. Plus, a new Nanoha anime is planned for 2026, and if it lives up to the quality of the manga, the franchise could experience a major resurgence.
9) Marchen Crown

Aoi Kujira and Aka Akasaka’s Marchen Crown starts with a classic fairytale: Rapunzel is rescued from a tower by a sweet boy named Mikel. However, their perfect romance quickly descends into horror when they find themselves in a dangerous world filled with monsters and brutal violence.
Though the beginning of Marchen Crown is a little rough, it quickly turns into a really enjoyable action story, cleverly blending horror with familiar fairy tale themes. It’s not Aka Akasaka’s best manga, but it’s still a fun read.
8) #Gal X Gal Yuri

I’m completely hooked on Inoue’s Gal x Gal Yuri! It’s about Yua and Reina, these two super fun gyaru girls who are just not having any luck with dating. So, on a total impulse, they decide to try dating each other* for a year! Honestly, what starts as a fun little experiment quickly turns into something really special, and it’s so heartwarming to watch them fall in love. It’s just a really sweet story!
After the initial one-shot of Gal x Gal Yuri was so well-received, Inoue decided to continue the story as a series. With its charming depiction of Yua and Reina’s relationship and enjoyable everyday moments, it’s clear why the manga resonated with readers. Positive representation in manga is always welcome, and Gal x Gal Yuri stands out as one of the best examples of 2025.
7) Idolatry

In the manga Idolatry by Shin Ootaka and Homare, Junna Harumi is devastated when her beloved idol, Fuwari Tsukishiro, leaves her group. When Junna learns Fuwari is trying out for a new group, she’s determined to help her succeed, even if it means going to extreme lengths.
Though recently released, the series Idolatry is already a blast to read, thanks to its fantastic artwork and the delightfully unhinged behavior of characters like Junna as they chase their dreams. It’s being compared to Blue Lock, but for the idol world, and so far, that comparison is proving very successful.
6) War Of The Adults

In Kappy and Masaaki Tsuzuki’s War of the Adults, Yutaro Urashima wakes up after being hit by a truck and discovers fifteen years have passed. He finds that a politician, motivated by Yutaro’s brave act of saving a cat, has transformed Japan into a country heavily monitored to supposedly reward responsible citizens. Determined to restore freedom, Yutaro sets out to dismantle this system.
“War of the Adults” is a consistently enjoyable series thanks to its memorable characters and a story that blends drama with humor. It’s always entertaining, no matter what mood you’re in, and consistently delivers surprising twists. Hopefully, the series will continue to be innovative and exciting for a long time to come.
5) Someone Hertz

Ei Yamano’s Someone Hertz features Mimei Fukumori, a young boy who dreams of having his jokes featured on his favorite late-night radio program, but always falls short. When he discovers his friend, Kurage Mizuo, is a regular writer for the show, they team up to improve Mimei’s comedy – or so it seems.
With its witty back-and-forth between the characters Mimei and Mizuno, and its charming romance and everyday moments, Someone Hertz has quickly become one of the best slice-of-life stories published in Shonen Jump recently. While some of the humor doesn’t quite land in English, the overall quality of the writing more than compensates for it.
4) Dream Jumbo Girl

Hiroyuki’s Dream Jumbo Girl tells the story of Chie, who always focused on getting into a top university. However, when her friend Kana wins the lottery and shares the money with her, Chie changes her plans. She decides to enjoy the winnings and make the most of them, believing Kana will eventually spend it all.
Hiroyuki, the creator of comedies like Aho-Girl and Girlfriend, Girlfriend, brings that same delightfully silly and over-the-top energy to Dream Jumbo Girl. Each chapter is consistently funny, and the series promises to be even more entertaining as it goes on.
3) Parashoppers

Tsubasa Fukuchi’s Parashoppers follows Mitsusada Amaragi, who unexpectedly receives the Parashop app. This strange app gives users superpowers, but at a dangerous cost: they must compete in life-threatening games. Armed with this new power and the ability to control straw, Amaragi is determined to survive and discover the app’s secrets.
With its hilarious characters, captivating mystery, and inventive fight scenes, Parashoppers consistently delivers a unique and exciting action story. Despite being less than a year old, it’s quickly become one of the best new manga available.
2) Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki’s Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo continues the story of the popular Jujutsu Kaisen manga. Set 68 years after the events of the Culling Games, the story follows Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu—the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki—as they try to prevent a war with aliens who have come to Earth seeking refuge in Japan.
Although the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen wasn’t perfect, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a really enjoyable series that addresses many of the problems fans had with the original. With beautiful art by Yuji Iwasaki and a stronger emphasis on characters and the world they live in, Modulo is halfway through its run and looks set to finish strongly.
1) WITCHRIV

Hakuri’s WITCHRIV follows Nona, a young magic user who keeps her abilities secret because many people fear mages. When her secret is revealed, Nona faces serious consequences and will stop at nothing to restore her life to normal.
WITCHRIV is a fantastic dark fantasy manga that consistently impresses with its beautiful art, smart action sequences, and genuinely fun story. It had a remarkably strong start, and continues to improve with every new chapter, making it a top pick for the best new manga of 2025.
