Hulu Just Added an Iconic 2000s R-Rated Comedy (And We’re Still Waiting on a Sequel)

The 2000s were a fantastic time for comedy movies, producing some truly memorable films. This period offered a little bit of everything – from the quirky, offbeat humor of movies like Napoleon Dynamite to the biting political commentary in Borat, and all sorts of comedies in between. It was also a particularly successful time for raunchy, R-rated comedies, and a standout film from that era is now available to stream on Hulu.

The hilarious comedy Superbad began streaming on Hulu on December 1st. Starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, the movie follows two high school seniors trying to have one last epic adventure – throwing a party and experiencing everything before graduation and heading off to college. Directed by Greg Mottola and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the film also features Judd Apatow as a producer and includes appearances by Seth Rogen, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader, Martha MacIsaac, and Emma Stone.

Superbad Is One of the Best Coming-Of-Age Comedies of All Time

What makes Superbad so funny is how realistically it portrays the awkwardness, insecurity, and often inappropriate experiences of being a teenager and having high school friendships. The characters feel like real people, not exaggerated stereotypes, and their close connection and relatable struggles give the movie both hilarious moments and genuine heart. Beyond its authenticity, Superbad is filled with memorable lines – like “Break yoself, fool” and “They said that would happen in health class” – and a fantastic soundtrack, all of which contributed to its status as a cultural touchstone.

Despite being critically acclaimed with an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, earning $170 million at the box office from a $20 million budget, and achieving cult classic status, a sequel to Superbad has never happened. Many fans want one, but Jonah Hill has historically been against revisiting the film, believing it doesn’t need to be improved. While Judd Apatow has expressed interest in a Superbad 2 for years, Hill recently suggested he’d only consider a sequel if they filmed it when they were both elderly – envisioning a sort of “old-folks-home Superbad.” For now, fans will have to keep enjoying the original movie on streaming services.

Plus, Hulu is getting everyone ready for the holidays with the complete Home Alone series, all the The Santa Clause films, and Disney’s A Christmas Carol.
