83-year-old John Aprea, portraying a youthful Salvatore Tessio in the 1974 movie “The Godfather Part II,” has passed away.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter on August 18th, it was announced that his manager, Will Levine, confirmed that the actor had unfortunately passed away on August 5th in Los Angeles due to natural causes.

Aprea, born in New Jersey in 1941, hailed from Italian parents who lived abroad with him for some years as a child before returning to America. His passion for acting led him to New York in the ’60s and later Los Angeles, where he made his screen debut in the 1968 film “Bullitt,” starring Steve McQueen.

He had small parts mainly on TV before landing his breakout role in The Godfather Part II.

Throughout his career, he also starred in movies such as The Manchurian Candidate and The Game and numerous TV shows, including the hit family sitcom Full House, in which he played the father of John Stamos‘ character Jesse Katsopolis, or Uncle Jesse. Aprea reprised the part on the Netflix sequel series Fuller House in 2017.

In the 1980s, this actor appeared on the television series “Matt Houston” and had recurring parts in prime-time soaps like “Falcon Crest” and “Knots Landing”. He also starred on daytime soap operas such as “Another World” and “Days of Our Lives”. Furthermore, he made guest appearances on various shows including “Melrose Place”, “Saved by the Bell: The New Class”, “Renegade”, “Silk Stalkings”, and “The Sopranos”.
