Netflix is finishing the year with a diverse range of movies and TV shows, offering something for everyone – from thrilling mysteries and heartwarming romances to family-friendly dramas and hilarious comedies. The year will culminate with the final episode of their most popular show, Stranger Things. While fans will be sad to see that series end, Netflix is also bringing back another fan favorite after a three-year hiatus.
The popular sci-fi show Stargate SG-1, which ran for 10 seasons and gained a large fanbase, is coming back to Netflix. All 10 seasons will be available in the United States and some other countries starting February 15th, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix.
The show left Netflix on December 1st, 2022, and many believed it would stay on Prime Video indefinitely. This was because Amazon bought MGM, adding a popular title to their streaming service. However, the original series is now back on Netflix, though the spin-offs Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate: Universe remain exclusive to Prime Video.
Prime Video Is Still Betting Big on Stargate

Even though Prime Video is now offering some Stargate content on Netflix, they are still actively developing new Stargate projects. A new Stargate TV series is currently in development at Prime Video, and they’ve brought together a talented team to make it happen. Leading the charge is Martin Gero, who will be the showrunner, writer, and executive producer. He’s known for his work on popular shows like Quantum Leap and Blindspot.
Gero has a strong history with the Stargate series, having worked on Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, and Stargate: Universe. He’ll be collaborating with the original filmmakers, Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, and other Stargate veterans like Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi. This talented team suggests a promising future for the series and its potential as a key part of Prime Video’s plans for building out multiple franchises.
Gero shared that his first television job was twenty years ago on ‘Stargate: Atlantis’ as a Story Editor. He spent five years working on all three ‘Stargate’ series, and credits the franchise with teaching him everything he knows about television production – it’s become a core part of his skillset. He’s excited that Amazon MGM Studios has asked him to lead the franchise into the future, and dedicated the continuation to longtime fans who have kept the spirit of ‘Stargate’ alive, while also promising a fantastic experience for new viewers.
As a sci-fi fan, I’m thrilled to say you can revisit the amazing universe of Stargate starting with SG-1. Seriously, get ready for ten seasons of pure, captivating science fiction – it’s a real treasure trove!
