2025 was an incredible year for horror fans! With successful movies like Sinners, Weapons, The Monkey, and Final Destination Bloodlines – offering everything from fresh ideas to continuations of beloved series – it’s been a truly standout year at the box office. Now, many of these great films are becoming available to stream, and one particularly excellent horror movie from 2025 just landed on Hulu – you might not have even heard of it yet!
Despite a quiet release in theaters back in August – earning only $391,000 domestically – the horror film Strange Harvest is now a must-see for genre fans, especially since it became available on Hulu on December 23rd. From the director of Grave Encounters, Stuart Ortiz, this mockumentary follows two detectives investigating a bizarre serial killer known as Mr. Shiny. After a 20-year hiatus, Mr. Shiny returns with a new series of disturbing and supernatural crimes, leaving behind puzzling clues at each scene.
Strange Harvest Is the Sleeper Hit You Need To See
If you’re looking for a truly unsettling horror movie, put Strange Harvest at the top of your list. It’s poised to become a cult favorite, and it’s unique in how it unfolds. The film feels like a genuine investigation, slowly revealing the mystery of “Mr. Shiny” by imitating the style of true-crime documentaries and police shows. This blend of found footage, mockumentary style, horror, and supernatural themes creates an incredibly immersive experience that builds suspense and leaves a lasting sense of dread.
Despite flying under the radar, Strange Harvest is one of the best-reviewed horror films of 2025. It boasts a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, exceeding the scores of more publicized movies like 28 Years Later, Good Boy, and The Long Walk. Film critic Tom Atkinson of Film Threat described it as a skillfully made and disturbing film that blends realism with horror, while Catherine Bray of The Guardian called it convincing, fascinating, and a clever take on a popular 2020s horror trend. Both critics and viewers agree that Strange Harvest is a surprisingly effective horror film with intense moments, genuine scares, and a villain who could become a modern horror icon.
What’s New on Hulu?
Hulu is finishing the year with a few final additions, including the film Strange Harvest. Other titles arriving before the end of December are The Life of Chuck (December 26th) and seasons 5-8 of Project Runway (December 30th). December has already been a strong month for new content on Hulu, with popular movies like Black Swan, Gremlins, and Planet of the Apes becoming available on December 1st, and films like Inheritance, Plane, and Chevalier added throughout the month.
