The Shibuya Incident arc had a devastating impact on the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, leaving widespread destruction and shock. With powerful sorcerer Satoru Gojo sealed away and the loss of key characters like Kento Nanami, everything has changed, signaling a much more dangerous and unpredictable future. Fans have eagerly awaited the animation of the complex Culling Game arc, and MAPPA Studios recently released a trailer offering a first look at new characters like Hakari, Takaba, and Angel. However, the introduction of Hiromi Higuruma has generated the most excitement. As a former lawyer who has awakened as a sorcerer, Higuruma represents a significant change in the series, shifting the focus from physical strength to more complex themes of morality and psychological conflict.
Even this brief glimpse of Higuruma – his powers, his weapon, and the chilling nature of his technique – has excited fans and suggests the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen will continue to show why it’s so popular worldwide.
The New Trailer Gives a Glimpse Into Higuruma’s One-of-a-Kind Domain

Many fans who only read the manga were curious to see how Higuruma’s special Domain Expansion, “Deadly Sentencing,” would look animated. The manga did a great job of creating a tense and creepy courtroom scene, but seeing it move, even briefly, adds a new level of fear for the characters and excitement for viewers.
Higuruma’s powers and his Domain Expansion work together – one can’t function without the other. His Domain Expansion creates a courtroom where opponents lose access to their cursed energy and can’t fight. Then, his Cursed Technique, ‘The Judgeman,’ comes into play. The Judgeman is a huge, vaguely human-shaped spirit with its eyes sewn shut, and it acts as the judge. It appears behind Higuruma, who acts as the prosecutor, and decides the fate of whoever is on trial. If the Judgeman finds the opponent guilty, they suffer penalties, like having their cursed technique temporarily taken away, leaving them defenseless. For particularly serious crimes, like those committed by Sukuna, Higuruma can summon the Executioner’s Sword, which instantly defeats anyone it touches.
The trailer’s depiction of the Judgeman is strikingly similar to Gege Akutami’s original artwork. Its closed eyes and scales emphasize its role as a neutral judge, suggesting that justice will be served without bias to anyone caught within its domain. The animation for these scenes adopts a cinematic, film noir style, which perfectly suits Higuruma and his abilities. Unlike the chaotic battles seen in Shibuya and throughout Jujutsu Kaisen Execution, Higuruma remains composed in a courtroom setting, impeccably dressed. The cold, sterile lighting hints at the grim “trial” awaiting anyone caught within the range of Deadly Sentencing.
Viewers familiar with older versions of this scene will notice a striking difference thanks to the vibrant colors and smooth, ethereal animation style MAPPA is using, signaling they understand the importance of this introduction. Higuruma’s special ability isn’t about physical combat; it’s a mental challenge that forces characters to confront their core beliefs and the validity of everything they think they know.
Higuruma is the Moral Compass in the Frantic and Deadly Culling Game Arc

Higuruma wasn’t like most sorcerers, who either inherit cursed power or discover it early on. He started as a lawyer dedicated to protecting innocent people. However, when the legal system failed one of his clients, he lost all faith in it. It was then, with the start of Kenjaku’s Culling Game, that he became a sorcerer. Remarkably, he reached Grade 1 status in just two weeks and even mastered the incredibly complex Reverse Curse Technique to heal himself, making him a uniquely compelling and thoughtful character, despite being positioned as an antagonist.
Higuruma stands out in Jujutsu Kaisen because his abilities are as unusual as his past. He completely changes how fights usually happen in the series, which often focuses on raw power. His introduction is significant because it makes viewers question what it truly means to win and forces them to consider the complexities of morality and justice in a world filled with curses.
